You were defending someone with a history of wanting to protect sexual molesters from prosecution.  That goes a bit farther than merely agreeing with Obama that rainbows and pixie sharts will fill the sky if we just give conservatives one more chance to fail at being decent people.

I remember reading about this "study" some doctors did with three patients that they had who all claimed to be Jesus returned. They stuck them all in the same ward and just watched them argue about who was really Jesus, taking "holier than thou" arguments to great new heights.

I'm a little confused why "cancel culture" and being "woke" are so critically important issues at this moment.

Who, exactly, is being hurt by these things? Mostly it seems like it's people who are unhappy that someone gets to criticize them on twitter and other people listen or it's actual cases of someone being awful (e.g. racist, misogynist) and being taken to task for it (once again on social media with few real world implications).

If I was conspiratorially minded, I would suspect that it's a conscious attempt by elites to distract from actual issues faced by the country.

I will say that Barack Obama has a lot personally at stake in this argument because if "woke culture" wins and we do have a coming to terms with all the injustice in our society, Obama will be cast out as a war criminal for blowing up weddings with drones and helping aid the creation of the concentration camps we have today.

I doubt that he doesn't realize this. But he has to act like he doesn't or is above it. Most people have no idea what it feels like to not only represent yourself but to also be a representation of your entire race. He has to walk on egg shells and ignore his natural impulses to act how he imagines someone who is better. He's gotta Jackie Robinson through the rest of his existence now and ignore when people spit in his face. Even people who have a vague idea of what it is like to be in a situation where you are basically representing your entire race have no clue what it would feel like to crank that to an 11 and end up in that position when you're as scrutinized as an American president.

So what should he have done instead?


That beer summit was the inspiration for his 21st century policing platform.  If your police department has a community engagement officer, officer mental health initiatives, or tells officers to set up a perimeter to catch a suspect instead of chasing after them alone into an alley and creating a use-of-force situation, it's thanks to that sit down.  According to This American Life, the officer and the professor are actually friends to this day.
