I worked out once with a woman who was a fourth degree black belt in Aikido. You'd have to be suicidal to attack her, and she doesn't hit or kick. You'd get thrown into the ground like a snapped towel, but not hit :-)

That dude an idiot. He's trying to get her into choke holds, wasting all his energy, and she's chilling. When he gets tired, she takes over.  If that was more than a spar, she'd have been elbowing him until his lights were out.

Seriously, GTFO the ring, ya shiatking.

Aikido is amazing. Watching attackers fly through the air and land on their ass before they even know what happened. It's amazing.

Even if they knew Brazilian jiu-jitsu they just don't have the size or strength to use the holds.

I took one class of Jiu-Jitsu in college for an elective. The first thing they taught is size doesn't matter and the moves/techniques are specifically designed to take down opponents larger than you. It's all about weight distribution and leverage.

I used to be part of a dojo that had two women who were red/black and black belts. Similar to your teacher. One student came to class (to observe) with two broken hands and we joked that he tried to get handsy with the blackbelt.

Love Aikido; at it's highest level a master barely breaks a sweat while his attackers are just flying around like they're cheap superheroes.

Impressive, I was expecting an out of shape basement dweller but that guy wasn't too out of shape. Not saying that he was built, but is at least an average guy.

She was kind of going easy on him.

The post-bout interviews, he was still claiming he was dominating her.

No mate, you were on top of her, that was all.

I spent 14 years in the martial arts. My instructor did kickboxing fights. And trained others.  One quote stayed with me about his time on the circut:

Most men's matches ended with decisions. The ladies matches ended im knock outs. They were super agressive and violent compared to men

Yes, he is - and it almost doesn't matter what the hell kind of combat style we're talking, the answer is simple.

Trained vs. untrained, barring an extremely lucky shot right out the gate, is only gonna end one way - and not a happy one for the untrained.  About the only time that's going to go the other way on a regular basis is with an truly insane strength disparity, like a "Ernie Reyes Jr. trying to beat on a huge dude in Red Sonja" level difference.

Training, strength, size.  They are important in that order, barring seriously ludicrous disparities.

I'll give him credit for getting in the ring. But not for being a douche and all-around misogynist.

2019-10-29 4:02:46 PM
To the layman, it looked like he was doing well at the beginning but once you realize she was toying with him making him burn himself out trying to beat her quick it was obvious that training beats "Me man, me bigger, me win" every time.

Checkers, chess and all that.

And in the end, he still didn't realize that he was never dominating.  He was doing exactly what she wanted him to do.  She was just waiting him out.

Yeah, that was like the fights I watched in high school. Kinda boring, actually.

And her technique is what I use for arm wrestling. I'm not a big guy, so I expend enough energy to hold my arm in place and just wait for the other person to tire themselves out, or give me a small window to press a small advantage. You wouldn't believe how effective that was. In high school we had a contest at the restaurant I worked for, and out of about 30 guy, I came in second, although most of them outweighed me by 50+ pounds.

I read the headline and assumed he meant 99% of male mma fighters and my first thought was he is probably right in most cases. Strength does matter, even if when technique is superior (see videos of an MMA fighter vs the Mountain, or a black belt 8 year old, etc). Generally speaking, of course.

Then I saw he meant 99% of all men could beat professional female fighters and I loled.

I've done a bit of rolling, and I know physique matters. I also know any pro MMA female could get me to submit in 3 seconds. Or semi-pro. Ok, any woman could press the right button. Anyhoo...

/I've beaten stronger men too, mainly those who gas out early, assuming my beer gut means I can't go the distance.

2019-10-29 4:09:23 PM
Well, duh.  It's just plain false to say that size doesn't matter, but it also doesn't usually carry the day.  I'm 6'5", can run 5 miles readily and bench press ~350... so, not exactly Olympian, but not a twig.  So, bigger than average, but otherwise fairly middle of the road, I suppose.  There is precisely zero chance I would assume a trained woman couldn't beat me.  I've been submitted by guys half my size (one was over 60 yo when I was 25) and have beaten guys my size.  It's nice to have size, but it's not *that* hard to overcome.  Same goes for strength or any other advantage one may believe their gender, genetics, etc will give them.  X pounds of force headed toward my jaw is going to hurt the same regardless of what's between the legs of the person throwing it

Not just impressive for the sheer WTF athleticism, but for the "Wow... if you did that even a little wrong you stand a fair chance of breaking your opponent's neck."  That's generally frowned on in matches I hear

Size still matters. A lot.

If it actually didn't, pro fighting wouldn't have weight classes.

She would have been foolish to stand there and throw knuckles with him.  That gives him an advantage in reach and strength.  And opens her up to a lucky shot.  She had to take him to the floor where she clearly had the advantage.  He wasn't going to get her in a lucky chokehold or armbar.

The thing about men and women is that they are statistically different, but there is a large over-lap in the middle of both ranges.

Imagine two Bell Curvices (normalized, of course, because they always are, oddly enough) and look at the area where the two curves over-lap. It is very large. For every man on one Bell curve, there is an equal woman on the other Bell Curve. About 85% or more of the women are equal to a corresponding man.

It doesn't matter what the curve shows. Math abilities is a good one for educational purposes. The women are bunched towards the middle, being more normal than men, while the male curve is flatter and broader, having way more idiots at one end and way more math freaks and geeks at the other end. Men are less normal, so they produce more geniuses, but they also produce more tards.

A good woman is always better than a mediocre or dumb man. And since there are way more of them, and they are better normalized and socialized, women are better than men, except when they aren't any better than a man, which is a pretty poor woman if you ask me or her girlfriends candidly.

Women are normal. They are from Earth. Men are a bit less normal, but mostly normal, so they've go that going for them, as well as pissing their lives away making extraordinary discovers, inventions, art and collections of things nobody in their right mind wants, like sports memorabilia.

I am happy to be able to mansplain this to you all, because if I were a woman I would probably have to explain it very patiently to one man and trick him into saying it after convincing him that it was his idea in the first place.

Some Farkers have accused me of being a woman (on the web nobody knows that you are a girl unless they are emotionally intelligent). I choose to take that as a compliment. Sometimes I think I might even be a match for some women, but let's not get insane with it.

I can't find it anymore, but there was a great video of a female Judo master just wiping the mat with several male challengers much larger than herself. She threw them around like they were ragdolls.

Fighting isn't just about strength. It's about endurance, speed, agility, wisdom, knowledge, skill, talent, and training. I don't care how big a roided-up dude might be. If he gets in a ring with a trained female judoka or thai kickboxer half his size, he's probably going to get his ass kicked, and chances are it will be because he thought strength was enough and ends up winded after hitting the mat the third time or throwing a dozen punches that never hit their mark because he's too slow and she's too quick.

A trained fighter will always have an advantage over an untrained fighter. Size won't be a big deal at that point.

A trained male fighter in the ring with a trained female fighter may be different, but it will also depend greatly on what martial art they're practicing, if they're both using the same style, and if they're really fighting or just sparring and trying not to hurt each other. When you get to certain skill levels, it's more about how and where you strike, instead of how hard you strike.

Finally, let me say this: MMA is dull and kind of a joke because it always boils down to two people rolling around on the ground trying to get each other in some sort of lock. I always pictured a thing like MMA coming along and having diverse fighting styles and cool moves like the kumite in Bloodsport, where the fighters remained on their feet and faced each other until one was down, and instead the average MMA match is more like watching high school wrestling.
