Um, I'm pretty sure that's the main street light, aka the sun.

Probably a banks robbery. Somebody should check the vaults.

You know people rave about the sunsets at key west.

They're right. The most amazing sunset I've ever seen. With the right clouds...there's like rays of light falling down on the ocean, like a kid's drawing of the sun...and the clouds are under lit with reflections off the water....
Then the sun falls down...faster than you think possible and sea gets into action with a crayola box of colors...and the sky turns most every color in the spectrum while the sun is setting. Greens, oranges, blues, reds, yellows...and purple. All highlit with the sea showing off it's color box.
I dont think it could be captured on camera...it's like an aurora with whisps of changing color in the sky dancing on clouds.

It's one of the amazing things I've seen.

Right. The answer is in TFA. There are definitely bases around there.

We used to take a rowboat out just to watch the Sun go down every night when we stayed on Key West for a month. It's beautiful down there.

We all can at least agree on one thing.
Whoever shot that footage should be keelhauled.

It amazes me that aliens with the power to overcome the difficulties of space travel, faster than light propulsion, and well, every other damned thing...

...have nothing better to do than hang out over the Atlantic.

Parachute flares are shot from the ground and one is enough to light up a huge area. Aircraft flares- i.e. countermeasures, do not use parachutes.

Chinese sky lanterns, from a boat. My guess, a wedding.

Judging by the Google search I just did, I am pretty sure you could, esp with a medium format camera. Just leave it set to RAW or DNG and do the adjustments in post. Now as for the lights, I am going with it being space junk. There's a ton of itty bitty stuff up there and most of it will come down at some point. They just got lucky enough to see some.

The real issue was it being filmed in portrait mode.

(Not hating on seeing a beautiful sunset as that's one of my favorite things to watch. I just hate that I am on the "sunrise" part of Florida and too many wire hanging from poles here break up the view. But when you find just the right place, even over land it's amazing to see.)

I'm not saying it's powerful flares being dropped from planes during military exercises, but it's powerful flares being dropped from planes during military exercises.

If you row fast enough, you can keep watching it until you get to Mexico.

To all the people saying it's military flares:

1) You either didn't read TFA or ignored the part that said that theory has already been debunked.

2) Other than them being lights in the sky, these (and most other UFO sightings where this explanation has been used) look nothing like military flares. Because, aside from light, flares put out copious amounts of smoke.

PreMortem (and others) had it right. Chinese sky lanterns are the most plausible explanation. They fit the bill in every way.

Definitely aliens. Definitely an invasion. Screaming in desperate panic is the only reasonable response. Flail hands above head. Do not stop screaming. Proceed to nearest official shelter.

Chiang Mai on new year's eve is one of the best things I've experienced. I only have some short crappy phone videos but I'm sure there are good ones out there.

It really needs to be experienced in person. There just aren't words to describe it.

They were here to check if the whales were doing OK, but they got their map reversed. Should have been floating over the Pacific Ocean.

Nice! San Diego?

I've seen phosphorescence once or twice on the East Coast, but it never would've shown up that brightly against a background with the Moon and pier lights. Guess I'll have to add that to my bucket list (probably behind our own state's synchronous fireflies and blue fireflies).

Banned in both Carolinas.  Besides, acquiring them isn't a problem.

Ps:  Georgia legalized fireworks several years ago.  The first couple months got annoying real fast.

Not my picture. I just lifted from the web. It's supposed to be Hatteras and the Outer Banks of N.C. I spent a week there in 1989, and remember the glowing waves, and how your footprints would leave glowing tracks. It's definitely my favorite of the limited number of East coast beaches I've been to.
