Serious question for whoever has seen The Human Centipede series. Are any of the three really that sick, visually? I have read descriptions of them, I guess the second sounds the worst. Can you tell it is simulated or is it realistic enough that it's actually repulsive to watch? Understand, I haven't seen any of the well-known gross-out "classics" like Salo or A Serbian Film, et al. Not that I am inclined to want to watch shiat like that, but is the amount of grossness overstated or are these films (esp. the Human Centipede series) truly despicable and once see are quite hard to forget.

Whatever high-brow intellectual point, or not, the filmmaker is going for is going to get lost in the soap-opera level acting, bad dialog and shot-on-an-imitation-iphone production.  That trailer was hilarious, and not intentionally.  I could see this "film" working as a midnight-movie, where upon admission you are given 10 beers, a bag of overripe tomatoes, a trenchcoat and perhaps, some lingerie and then told have at it.

A Serbian Film is the sickest movie I've seen.
Human Centipede, first one was more gross but not visually sickening, since he didn't have the budget to do the effects.  2nd was a little worst, 3rd was just non-sense and didn't see the whole thing.

Didn't see Salo.

I think some of the torture porn type movies like Hostel, Saw, and I Spit on Your Grave are visually more disturbing.

I guess, but if you want to watch women or men masturbate; aren't there a whole bunch of documentaries on the internet about the subject?  I've been told.

There was some movie where a guy is in Germany and walks into a theatre and is handed some tissues.  And the movie playing is some people being tortured / killed, and all the guys in the theatre are masturbating to it.  Can't remember the name.
I am thinking this movie is similar, but the woman start killing people in real life.

I don't even remotely see any artistic value, and can't imagine this is someone's fetish.  But the internet always proves me wrong.

Long ago, I took a class on the social history of art, text by Hauser.  Fascinating class.  Retroactively, it was easy to look back on popular art forms, and see that even in the mainstream examples, we got what we were asking for.  Ergo, easy to see why the torture porn craze of the Bush era could only have emerged, and flourished, in that era.  Not sure if secret women's masturbation society films will be a trend but, will await to see if the floodgates open.

In the end, we do get the art we truly deserve.

The first Hostel was, for me, at least involving. The worst part was the woman losing her eye (ewwww!). Saw was just boring for me. The original I Spit on Your Grave was strange because the overlong and graphic as hell rape scenes were so disturbing to watch, but knowing what she was gonna do to these sick farks (which I did know in advance) made it easier to get through her being so abused. Not justifying it, per se, just a personal observation. What I have read about A Serbian Film...I can't imagine sitting through it.

I watched the first one thinking it would be a satire and somewhat self aware and done with a wink and a nod, I guess. Nope. Dead straight torture-mutilation porn. Stopped watching at about the halfway point. Let it play out so Netflix wouldn't keep bugging me to finish watching, thereby reminding me I made the mistake of starting it.

Yeah, which makes it a common thing, not The Sin of Onan For Which He Shall Be Eternally Known. His sin was declining to get somebody pregnant, so Onanism should refer to the act of using birth control.
