Investigators are looking into whether the death was related to a drug overdose.

As opposed to an overdose not related to drugs?

QT is a company I might offer my skills to upper management. Their skillset is running very similar stores. But I've popped into a store to find the overnight is affraid to check stopped cars parked at a pump. Call the local constabulary to check on those vehicles.

Their skillset is running stores that are kept tidier and better stocked than their competition.

QT has forced a paradigm-shift in how convenience stores around here are run, and most of the old, worn-out stores have closed or been replaced by new stores appearing to be built on QT's model if there's a QT within a mile.

"They say the deceased man was not wheelchair-bound and the men borrowed the wheelchair to transport his body."

Can I get my wheelchair back please?

Leaving a corpse and taking off is more of a Vacation thing than Weekend at Bernie's.

Well, it is like I was on Craigslist and a guy said he had a stiffie...  Things sort of devolved after that....

How did they know? Did they take the chair away and the corpse started walking on it's own?

Kids, call their parents or take them home if you think someone OD'd. (It's OK to ring the bell a bunch of times and run.) You'll be surprised how happy everyone will be in the end. (Old people, call their kids, though they'll be less happy than parents are in such situations.)

Around here it is mostly RaceTrac, with a few QTs that came in later.  Same idea, though.

Funny thing was that growing up in Iowa, there were a few QTs and they were low rent 7/11 knockoffs. Then sometime between 85 (when I moved from Iowa) and the last 10 years, they changed their business model to this newly successful one.

Well QT is a Safe Place to drop off unwanted babies and corpses. What the problem is?

When they came to Arizona they were pretty smart about it. They catered to the people driving around for work during the day. Thirty sodas on tap, hot food worth eating that was regularly changed out, bathrooms actually cleaned on a regular basis. Fuel pumps with enough space to make it easy to get in and out, even when it's congested. Free air for car tires.

One opened up just over a mile from where I was based and probably half of my field coworkers and I turned it into our regular stop. It was just so convenient and we didn't feel like Jay and Silent Bob eating our food and shooting the shiat in front before heading out to do work.

Sounds a lot like the similarly-named Kwik-trip chain. Speedway stores are kinda shabby in comparison.

Heh. A mile north of where I work from there had been an ancient, decrepit 7/11. The kind of store that used to have a pair of gas pumps but at some point they got taken out and was basically just acting as a local neighborhood ghetto grocery store. Thing was old, had banded-edged formica counters with numerous chips at the edges, the weird high vaulted ceiling with the entire front wall originally glass, with several panels having been retrofitted with not-glass.

A couple of years after the QT opened two miles south of them this 7/11 burned down and was never rebuilt. They bulldozed everything above the foundation slab, so all that remains is the slab and the front curb with the angle-iron set into it. I have to wonder if it was an insurance-fraud job, more money to be made destroying it and collecting the insurance than trying to operate it. Only thing I miss from it, they had legitimate ICEE machines.

The Circle-K closest to work pissed me off last week, I'd walked over to get a soda refill and the prices had gone up. Mind you, all of their signage including the plastic panels on the soda machines themselves still had the old lower prices, but the computers had been adjusted by corporate overnight and the clerks had not bothered replacing all of the signage that they supposedly had received for the change. So for now they're off the list. I don't give my business to companies that do that sort of thing. If I thought it would do any good I'd have reported them to Weights and Measures.

Weekend at Bernies: Electric Bugaloo:

They keep dragging Bernie around and he keeps whining "I am not dead yet".

Oh, it would be so funny if it weren't a bit sad and tragic.

I like Bernie, I really do. He's old school. But I wish he would make himself useful and become a RINO so he could run directly against Trumpery.

That was Ralph Nader's big mistake. He ran as a Democrat. He should have run as the Detroit Candidate. America is unsafe at any speed and he's the Man with the Message.
