What cannot stop Alex Trebek?

That's correct for $600.

2019-08-29 4:29:13 PM
This makes me happy.

2019-08-29 5:02:34 PM
Who is a badass for $1000, please.

2019-08-29 5:24:24 PM
I'll take "Best News Of The Day" for $1000

2019-08-29 5:24:35 PM
Good Lord, he's 79? he looks terrific.

2019-08-29 5:24:57 PM
I'll take "Fark Cancer" for $1000

2019-08-29 5:27:20 PM
And the answer is:   This man, Jeopardy Host before Trebek, died of pancreatic cancer.

2019-08-29 5:29:26 PM
Suck it cancer

2019-08-29 5:29:55 PM
I guess his health is no longer in jeopardy!

2019-08-29 5:30:11 PM
I am glad. Sure, he's not a Canadian any more, but he is probably a damn good American all the same. He might have dual citizenship, until Trump catches wind of that one little trick that allows people to be Americans and still have the rights and liberties of a free nation--elsewhere.

2019-08-29 5:31:20 PM
I don't care about and never watch Jeopardy, but this guy is an absolute badass. If I ever face as dire a prognosis, I can only look to him and hope I do it with a tenth the dignity, grace and courage he has exhibited.

2019-08-29 5:31:27 PM
Meh.  A good friend of mine came back after chemo for pancreatic cancer.  He lasted about 3 more months.

9/13/2001...that was a bad week

Keep on fighting Alex

Pretty sure Nickelback released their hit album that week too.

Alex will, too.
When ever gets the gig after might have second thoughts about it.

That's nice to read about. Alex Trebek is right up there with Mr. Rogers in my book.

2019-08-29 6:16:54 PM
Trebek's survived two heart attacks, a subdural hematoma and is still hanging in there at age 79 after chemo for pancreatic cancer.  Remarkably tough and resilient guy.

2019-08-29 6:17:53 PM
Dude is dead in six months. Mark my words.

Is this a case of "chemo worked" or a case of "continued chemo would just be needless torture"?

It's a case of "alot of money or friends in high places worked". Late stage pancreatic is a death sentence for normal folks; not sure who he had in his corner, but they worked some magic there.

It's science biatches. I shared a bench with a woman who in her spare time made custom cancer treatments; 18 years ago. Using individual patient tumour tissue. Thats gonna cost ya and it isnt getting any cheaper!

/ what is "not today; ain't nobody got time for cancer"

2019-08-29 7:14:21 PM
He's almost 80. He doesn't have a lot of time left.

No, the chemo worked at prolonging his life, but he's still 70% likely to be dead within 5 years.  Rich people don't have a secret magic cure for this one, bub.

Umm, same thing happened to a co-worker back last winter. They told him it shrunk and he came off Chemo, A couple months later it came back with a vengeance and he went back on the Chemo but he passed away in May.

T.rex: Good Lord, he's 79? he looks terrific.

And Pat Sajak is 72.  A professional makeup department can work wonders.

Patrick Swayze agrees.

Really?  I'm impressed there too... i was just remarking about him AND Vannah, the other day.  They both look pretty much the same as they did 30 years ago.

Yea, after Swayze was told that there was no hope for a recovery, he decided to go on working as long as he could.

I guess if you have already lived with the financial freedom to cross off many of the things a working stiff would put on their bucket list, that might be something you might do.

I grew up in a family where a lot of relatives worked with hospice patients, so I'm not likely to be one of those people who waste what little time they have left.

He's Canadian.  Of course he's likeable!  There's only one Canadian who isn't, and even he has been working on it lately.

I was going to say something like this. Nobody recovers from stage 4 ever. They might go into temporary remission but we are talking weeks, maybe months, but never years.

Yea, Stage 4 my arse.   Maybe it was in the tail of the Pancreas which is much more survivable but I would like to hear more details than stage 4.

/wife had stage 2a - dead in 9 months.   Chemo helped a little.

He's only unlikeable by his castmates.  I was thinking of the Zodiac killer.

Maybe not 6 months, but 100-1 says he's gone in 3 years. You get pancreatic cancer, you are beyond farked. Same thing got Steve Jobs, and he had more money on hand to pay for medical care than some small countries. The treatments just don't exist.

/will miss the guy, love the show.

REDARMYVODKA: Same thing got Steve Jobs, and he had more money on hand to pay for medical care than some small countries.

Jobs stupidly went the holistic route when his cancer actually had a high probability of remission.  He came around to proven treatments too far along and by that point there was no turning back.
