Video shows him driving on a truck scale... so apparently he made it to the scrapyard.

(shrug)

I bet that scratched the roof.

About 200 in fines? I bet the hauling charge from the scrapper would have been more, so he ended up saving money anyway.

I want to know what kind of specific skill and gear set this man has... that he was able to load up a car on a car, presumably from his home... but wasn't able to get it running, or onto a rented trailer or such.  Is his only tool a crane?

/The complete disregard for the safety of the general public aside of course.

The car looked like it was pretty stripped out... i suspect he's already made a few trips to the scrapyard with all the parts he could remove himself.... and once youve removed the drive train & the interior, cars are actually not that heavy, prolly just invited a few friends over to help lift the chassis onto the roof.

I hear he's Liam Neeson's uncle.

Either that or hes got a sturdy tree & a come-along.

He was fined £80 and told to pay a victim surcharge of £30 and costs of £85 after pleading guilty to the offence.

what the fark is that?  looks like he was the victim here.

Other than hand tools, that's all that would be needed to lift it up.. and a "crane" might just refer to a lifting contraption hanging from a sturdy frame.

One major mistake was in not lowering it onto a trailer. But he probably does not have a truck, so he was likely to make some less obvious mistakes in dragging that trailer across town.

4 people can pretty easily lift a chassis once the interior and drive train are removed.

also...gotta love the b5/b5.5 passat.
I wonder if he has the 2.8 or the 1.8 in there, because IIRC the W8 has a little W8 on the grill.

/recently resurrected a 2002 4motion passat glx wagon with the v6.

I've had auto repair, modification, and restoration as a hobby for going on twenty years now. Sometimes various rules can be annoying, but then people like this remind me why we have those rules.

/has used AAA to move junk cars before
//AAA Plus coverage is wonderful, up to 50 miles towing included per-incident
///vehicle doesn't have to be registered or licensed for them to tow it

though watching the video...it seems it still has the interior as well as part of the front suspension / hub

Do auto scrap yards not pay you for the car and throw in the tow? Maybe that's just in urban centres... $200 cash plus they come pick it up is a standard deal for a dead car here.

2019-08-29 5:13:17 PM
Are tow dollies not a thing over in Wales?  Or just find some cheapo tires for the junker and use a tow line behind the Passat.
Also, that's going to leave a scratch.

Mr. Bean would put the new car on top of the old car, rig up the controls, and drive his old car and new car to the scrapyard, then driving his old car away because when they asked which to crush, he liked the old car better.

He was driving a Mercedes.  Otherwise the cost would have been to stop so the Heddlu could take selfies and a mandatory car wash after delivering the wreck.

And of course he'd be running a Reliant Robin off the road at least once, preferably once in each direction, at the same roundabout. Even better if it's the same Reliant Robin.

There was the one who figured out that if he took his sheep to the edge of a cliff first it would push back harder.

That's not illegal here.

Seriously, I don't think there's any law that would cover it if the load is secured properly and the GVWR isn't exceeded.

If only he could attach some kind of wheels to the car itself, so then it could just be pulled from behind like a trailer, without actually needing one.  I know, too much beer, I'll just shut up with my nutty ideas.

you either need someone braking in the car being towed or you need a tow bar: https://www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-Tow_Bars.aspx
