Nothing wrong with sailing during a hurricane.  Why just today I saw a bunch of sailboats in the lake by my house.

The problem is trying to sail in a hurricane.

OK, smarty-pants.  It wasn't a sailboat, however the real problem is that it DID go sailing.

Looks like Jimmy John's couldn't make that freaky fast delivery to the boat that goes underwater that was anchored in the bay.  Why of course they're sub sandwiches.

You should turn up the squelch.  Listening to static will may you start hearing "voices".

Ah, nice to see my work here is done.  _Sailing_ in a hurricane may not be entirely unjustified, but taking a cheap inflatable dinghy out in any conditions more extreme than would be found in a bathtub with the vent fan on should be thought through *carefully*.

Subby has obviously never been hunkered down in an anchorage while running out of alcoholic beverages. You check your rodes, make sure your snubbers are fair, head for the store and hope the boat is still there when you get back. If not, head for the closest boat, since you will be welcome anywhere because you now have said beverages.

I think the world uses the term "sail" with reference to any vessels going to sea. Isnt't that common? I think it's just a term that has hung on forever.

The legend lives on from San Juan on down
Of the big sea they called Caribbean.
The sea, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of late summer turn gloomy.
With a load of say-lor eighty-six thousand grams more
Than the inflatable boat weighed empty
That good boat and crew was a bone to be chewed
When the gales of late summer came early.

There will definitely be lots of abandoned sail boats being sold off dirt cheap after this storm.

Though they are still trying to sell off storm damaged boats from the last few years of storms.

I am surprised that there are any insurance companies willing to give policies for boats in hurricane zones anymore.

Was that filmed from inside a different boat? Is it common to hunker down in a docked boat during a hurricane?

I honestly have no idea but it seems like a bad idea to my land lubber legs.

If you're stupid enough to try to set sail in a hurricane, you'd better be in a large ship, or a sailboat.  You need weight and a keel.

Not common, but not unheard of.

You're not necessarily safer on land, especially in some of those island shacks...and you can fire up your engine if your anchor starts dragging.

/have been out in similar conditions; it's more exciting when your 14' Whaler tries to flip over on you like that :)

I used to keep my sailboat int he FL keys, MANY people chose to ride out a storm on their boat, especially if moored or in a hurricane hole.  The most I ever did was move mine a couple of miles in 50mph winds to a storm hole, but I was in my living room before the Hurricane winds hit.
