He replied, "No first a Gibson and then a Fender."

Take the 14 year-old kid away asap. He's not fit to be a parent, and if he has a partner neither are they if they don't get rid of him.
Emancipate the 17 year-old.

I remember back in the 80s I had a friend who wanted to skip the sunday school bus and play some backyard football all morning.

Afterwards, I came home with him and we were both covered in mud.  His dad was a tree trimmer and full of 6 foot 5 muscle. That towering man told me to go home and as I was walking away, his dad went to town on him.  The next day, he came to school with bruises all over his body.  He told me his dad put him through the drywall.  He never missed the school bus again.

I would imagine something like that happening today would land a parent in jail.  Back in the 80s, this was commonplace and never given a second thought.

The last time my mom ever tried to spank me was because I was whining about going to church. I'd been futzing around all morning, taking my sweet time getting out of bed, and being an ass. I'm finally getting out of the shower about the time we're supposed to be leaving and say something along the lines of, "I don't see why we have to go to church anyways." I'm standing there butt naked, drying off, and she comes in with a wooden spoon. I knew how much that was going to sting so I ended up taking it from her; I was around 13 at the time. She left for church crying, and I sat down and ate some breakfast. She came home an hour later and made me ride my bike to the late morning service.

/I laugh about it but I still feel guilty

I have it on the authority of a Georgia Superior Court Judge that incidents like the one you mentioned are simply "a disciplinary action gone wrong."

With no farks left to give upon hearing that; my reply clearly stating that I have zero farks to give and a definitive outcome will occur should any harm happen to my son if I hear even a rumor of his hair being ruffled in anger.

I mention this only b/c the reason for the 'disciplinary action' was b/c my youngest voiced his opinion that he did not want to attend church twice a week & he was busy doing a homework assignment on the computer. That was grounds for a beating b/c we all know which event is more important to attend to right? My Ex's Jesus likes his children ignorant and the Ex was damned sure he was going to assist in that plan.

Not attending church in a NW GA podunk town? That is blasphemy. You have to also grasp that the judge knows which church each party attends prior to walking out of his office and parking his dough face, fat arse in his cushy chair in the courtroom to make life altering decisions that effect a child's well being. Just as Jesus intended...
/Thanks, soap box returned to its closet, I feel better now.

Acoustic or Electric? I feel like that is important. I would think that breaking an electric guitar on someone would take a lot more effort than an acoustic.

I doubt you're going to break bones with an acoustic. There's not enough mass behind it.

Sa what?

Nothing stresses the importance of religion like being beaten for not going to church. The kids wil hopefully learn that it's vitally important to get the fark away from religion and all the nutjobs leveraging religion to justify their assholery in the world.

Where the hell are you from? I grew up in the 80s and 90s, and while spankings were certainly normal, anything that left a cut, red mark, welt, bruise, or other lasting sign would have most definitely been considered abuse.

Pretty sure this was in the bible.  Somewhere between whipping tax collectors out of church and teaching Stone Cold Steve Austin about John 3:16.

northeast ohio.  I had the switch (thin tree branch) to me many times in my youth.  I screamed so loud the neighbors did call the police and child services.  I had many red welts on my legs from that day and they showed up and left without when they found out it was "discipline" and not abuse.

I was an out of control child and usually deserved the punishment I got.  I don't know if that helped me become a better adult or not.  I'll just leave that one alone.

It might have been more of a 'not respecting my authority' than a 'you will be a upstanding [insert religion of choice] ist if I have to beat it into you' thing.

You go after someone asleep- much less your own children and with a weapon- you just might have some issues that could lead you to snap over just about anything.
