Not true. The first time the Simpsons mentioned "President Trump" before he was actually president was way after 1995.

It's just like saying Robert Zemeckis has one for Back to the Future 2. They never thought Biff would be president.

Which episode? Frinkiac.com doesn't find any matches for "Greenland". Maybe it was a newspaper or TV headline in the background but I wasn't aware of any "President Trump" references before that one in 2000.

I always hated Garfield, anyway. How is a cat supposed to know that a person will become POTUS and then try to buy a giant country-sized golf course? This web site is inaccurate and going to shiat. And no, I won't get over it.

It was mildly amusing in the original presentation, but it has no effect when a secondary source presents it as though reporting on a fact.

Frinkiac only uses dialogue IIRC. Even if this story were true (which I'm positive it isn't as I've seen every episode of the Simpsons from 1995 so much I could quote them word-for-word from start to finish), searching for Greenland would give you nothing unless some character said it.

You know, Bill Simmons once created something he called the Tyson Zone, where a celebrity, athlete, whatever got so outlandish that even the strangest scenario someone would say to you that you'd automatically discard as fake if said about anyone else, you'd still have to stop and think "What, is that true? That might actually have happened" when it was said about that person. Mike Tyson, Dennis Rodman, Michael Jackson all fell into that category.

Trump also fits the bill perfectly. This one is fake, but it's completely plausible. Hell, when I first saw he was literally asking about buying Greenland (and then canceling a meeting that had nothing to do with it when they said it wasn't even theirs to sell), that too was something that you'd hope was fake that turned out to be real.

Actually, when I saw the buying Greenland possibility, I thought, "This is probably the least-dumb idea he's had."
