Something about Lu's Watson just seems too perfect. The book Watson had a gambling problem.

I liked it, though it took me way too long to get the joke about her kid.

Wait, wait, don't tell me: He faked his death at Reichenbach Falls?

Subby had me freaked out that the BBC Sherlockshow had ended, and then I remembered that it probably already has.

I have had a ...strong dislike for Lucy Lu since Ally McBeal, to the extent that I refuse to watch anything that she is in.
Should I put this aside and watch the show anyway?

I gave it a shot last year. Seemed below average for a detective show and there was too much relationship-backstory clutter for me to bother catching up on.

I kept up with it for a few seasons. I hate the typical procedurals and it turned out to be one, or at least too close to one for my tastes. It was fun for a while though.

It would seem that opinions are split.

Hopefully some others will chime in so I can get a consensus.

I personally loved it. I have a moratorium on shows about cops, doctors and lawyers, Elementary was my only exception.

Fast forward another year and we see Sherlock at a funeral and it is assumed that Joan is dead

As I said I love the show, but upon reflection that scene felt like a cheap fakeout.

Perhaps I might qualify my vote. It in some ways plays like a standard procedural..... BUT the characters are solid as is the acting. I mean the are no weak links, no annoying stereotypes (Example: the chief is not a screaming about the mayor jackass). And finally, the characters always stay true to their origins, there are no acting uncharacteristically stupid in service of the script moments.

True.
However since it's not on Netflix, I can't watch it.

Is there someplace other that Netflix where I can watch it?

You can buy an episode for $2.99 from Amazon Prime Video, I think. If you think it's worth it, I'd ask a fan which season or episode they recommend. Like I said, I was put off by too much backstory.

Fireproof: Subby had me freaked out that the BBC Sherlockshow had ended, and then I remembered that it probably already has.

I think it just got Moffatted rather than being cancelled; it disappeared up its own arsehole in a puff of brilliant smugness, as many productions that guy is involved in do.

I have to say, I never watched Elementary, because I was so into Sherlock when it first started I looked down my nose at Elementary as a cheap knock-off. I guess it may be worth a watch.

Their dynamic was more interesting in the first couple of seasons, and there was more shirtless Johnny.

Also I loved her outfits.

So, like the Sherlock that idiots liked? Cumberbatch was a nice thing, Brett was the standard after Rathbone. Yeah. So bad a dumb show is done. Screw you fans. I hope you cry in your bad taste.

People like it, so they watched it.  Everything else you said is irrelevant to that fact.  It's better than 90% of every other show on TV.

The mere gender switch on Watson wasn't much of an idea, but Liu did a great job with a very well written character. Having her quickly shown to be almost as smart as Holmes but untrained worked very well. I'm sorry to see it go.

Watched the first two seasons, Watson should not be Sherlock's equal until the end of their adventures.

They borrowed the gender-bent Watson from this:
