I was intrigued by the fact that this breaking news only seemed to be getting coverage by right-wing Twitter idiots and sites like Townhall until I realized that she was talking about the sort of "making fun" that involves Border Patrol agents posting pictures of AOC being raped by Trump. Funny how that part doesn't seem to get mentioned here.

While inartfully put, it's pretty clear she's talking about threats and not just making fun. And i for one am fine with prosecuting people who threaten violence against real people online no matter who they are.

I also support firing federal employees who post the kind of crap that was posted in that facebook group.

There is a difference between making a joke about a sitting member of Congress and insinuating that a sitting member of Congress should be raped by the president. The former, however uncouth, is okay; the latter, however justified, is not.

We see (and I often make) posts on this site that infer that the Presidents farks his own daughter. I'm fine with those CBP people being disciplined and possibly terminated but I think actual criminal prosecution is a bit much.

No, I'm not clicking a clownhall link. What constitutes a threat? Is AOC actually concerned about Trump forcing her in a such a vulgar way, are is everyone just put off about the crudity and classless nature of the "humor"?

What about five years down the line, an opponent threatens a Congresscritter... to lose at the polls. If something that AOC does not credibly think is going to happen and is not a real threat - does this count? Lawyers take these things as far as they can, that's what their clients pay them to do.

I'm one of those starry-eyed ACLU supporters who thinks that the best answer to objectionable speech is more speech. I think this because of a belief that in a war of ideas, the best and brightest ideas will indeed shine through.

Or that to a bit of nasty and hurtful propaganda, sharper and biting satire can answer.

So I wonder, what is the answer to BP and ICE agents attacking AOC with online posting/sharing of pictures of Trump raping AOC? Well I guess the most savage retort I have would be to characterize BP and ICE agents as the types who would post and share online that sort of image. I can't disparage their character any better than they have already done. Well, except for they went lower in their treatment of dead and suffering children.

The BP and ICE have been irreparably corrupted under Trump. They will need to be stripped bare and rebuilt from scratch.

Reprehensible behavior, sure.  Probably subject to employment disciplinary action, but still not illegal or prosecutable.  She should know better.

Federal workers operate under a code of conduct, and that conduct extends to social media posts.  If people want to be free to post photos showing a president forcing a member of Congress to perform oral sex, then tjey should.not be dumb enough to link that post to thei identity or agency.

Also consider that the dumbassery you condone now can amd will be flipped against you when the pendulum swings back.

And those guards who think the rape jokes are hilarious on Facebook are in Trump's concentration camps with no one watching them "guarding" women and children. We will find out rape was a common occurrence in these camps...maybe....someday.

Some violations of the CBP Code of Conduct could lead to prosecution.  It's not outside of the realm of possibilities.  I'd have to go back and read on violations involving social media.

Well, it was illegal to publish an insult or criticize federal officials including members of Congress. They put a sunshine provision on that law though, it expired before the 1800s.
