I felt sorry for the Thai team at halftime. Then the second half happened.  How does a national team recover from that?

The defense wasn't great but that goalkeeper for Thailand looked terrible.

Is it possible for national teams to be relegated?

That's two field goals and one touchdown. Which ironically sorts of metaphorically like a woman. Hehe!

My headline was 13 goals better than this shiat.

After it became 10-0 I remembered this video. I expect there'll be versions out there by the end of the week.

I also found myself saying "Somebody stop the damn match" several times in the second half

Commentators: "By continuing to play hard despite being up by half a dozen goals, the US is showing its respect for the Thai team."

Me: "Imagine how respected they'd feel if you hung 30 goals on them!"

So, yeah, after a while I was rooting for Thailand. Now to watch France take on Andorra in the Euro qualifiers!

Holy crap, no mercy, no quarter. Well done! USA!

/ If a score got run up like on the dudes the losing team would be flopping, whinging and playing dirty with the coach throwing things and at least four brawls in the stands.

It could have been worse: He could have abandoned them in a cave that's partially flooded.

It's worth running the score up like that, virtually guaranteeing that the U.S. team won't lose on tiebreakers.

Even in college football, there isn't really a material difference between winning 56-0 and winnin 77-0.  Both are just big blowouts.  By the rules of soccer, though, winnin by 13 is a lot better than winning by 5.

There was a World Cup (mens) qualifier that was 32-0 a few year back. Australia v. American Samoa 2001, if memory serves. The American Samoa team didn't have shoes if I remember right.

Yep, taking a break from Thai takeout for a week or so.

If you want to run up the score, save that for women's hockey.

I had a Canadian friend say something like "Stay classy, USA" then I had to remind them of how classy the Canadian women's hockey team was when they won silver and several players took their medals off during the ceremony.  Yeah, that was real classy!  Even polite Canadians can by hypocrites.

You could also remind them that in the WWC, goal differential matters later on in the tournament. One can feel bad for Thailand, but the US ain't got shiat to be sorry for. People don't like? Lobby to change the rules.

Will the Swedish women be as brutal with Thai pros? Film at 11.

I support USA Women's soccer, but if you're going to run up the score, how about not rubbing it in?
Talented team shows they lack class.

Instead of being proud of my team I feel embarrassed by them.

Which is a pretty dumb rule. It just encourages strong teams to throttle weak ones, without giving any clear way of differentiating between evenly-matched ones.

If anything, the rule should be that ties go to the team with the smallest goal differentials -- those teams created the more exciting matches. A 1-0 match is contested to the very end. A 13-0 match was over 30 minutes in.

The phrase Act like you've been there before seems apt.  Play hard, but back off on the celebrations when you go up 10-0.

Ladies, if you really want to be respected and treated like the men's team, start acting like professionals and don't celebrate meaningless goals like they're the gold medal winner in extra time

31-0, and the Samoans did have shoes.  Not, in many cases, driver's licences or enough years on them to drink; owing to a planning snafu they sent a lot of youth-team players.  Nonetheless, Australia pointed to that to get us moved over to Asia for qualifying instead of Oceania to get more TV money better competition.
