It is hard to take liberal's calls for universal health care, guaranteed living wages, free university, and ponies for all seriously when they cry over the government increasing revenue to pay for sh*t we already have.

It's hard to take conservatives calls for smaller government seriously when they cheer for higher taxes on others to fund the benefits they overwhelmingly receive.

Red state welfare system, all systems check!

That's why the "Vote for It.  Then Read It" tax bill was done in the dead of night, made at a secure location with only double loyal GOP senator cult members.  Gotta love the Senate.  The next best thing to the Electoral College.

If only there were a way to award voting power to the reciprocal of the collective IQ of a state so the smallest dummest state would get the most votes.  Amendment 28 get ready to turn into a real boy.

Since the "blue states" tend to be the ones that generate the revenue I suppose it's tantamount to increasing tax on the wealthy so I'm reasonably okay with this.

I could almost agree with Lucky if the Trump administration had shown even the slightest indication that they had any interest in balancing the budget beyond punishing people they don't like by raising taxes and/or cutting services.

It's hard to take a known conservative shill serious when they routinely rail against socialist policies while cheering on red state welfare and redistribution of wealthy from blue states to red states because you uneducated hilljacks cannot get real jobs with living wages.

or when they do things like try to legislate a woman's body. They apparently want government so small and numerous that it can fit in every woman's velvet purse

In reality the new standard deduction means most of us pay essentially the same tax rate.  People who bought a home on the upper limit of what they could afford within the past 5 years are screwed.  They paid way too much, and can't deduct their mortgage interest or real estate taxes.  And if some of you don't know, RE taxes are ballooning much faster than inflation (it's triple the rate in my town).  This is to cover the increasing cost of health care for the town employees and retirees.
Single payer would relieve this problem, but you know, those emails.  Also, the tax cuts did nothing but enbiggen the national debt, and force a crisis in the near future over debt service.
/feature, to kill SS and Medicaid, obviously.

They didn't increase revenue to pay for things we already have.  They increased taxes on workers so corporations could get a tax cut to buy back there stock.

I've always wondered what trolls people of differing opinions like this get out of it? Is it attention? Likes/replies? Is there actual money involved? Do they think someone might actually think they're a bootstrappy ITG? I've just never understood the troll person of differing opinion attitude.

Cool. Still never voting Republican, and this just adds to the whole "hope all Republicans suffer, see everything they love die including their dog before they themselves die horribly, preferably today" thing.

fark all Republicans forever. 100% really do wish for the absolute worst for all of them on every level. Forever.

Do like Republicans? Do you think they are anything at all but a criminal gang? I wish for the absolute worst for you and your family foever. I really would not help you survive ANY situation at all. Really die. Seriously.

That's what your boy has gotten you. Forever.

Again the next Democratic President should reverse this, and then offer a 3x tax credit to those states with state and local taxes.

I am not above sticking a finger in your eye if you stick one in mine first.

This tax change is carefully crafted to hurt the people who live in blue states, but aren't rich. For the Rich the increase is negligible. For the working class living in a "rich" area it's painful.

A lot of people around here are blaming the Democrats for their high taxes instead of the Republicans for taking away their deductions, exactly like Trump's cronies intended.

2019-06-11 11:27:06 PM
Pretty sure blue state folks are against tax breaks for the rich anyways. And believe me, if you are paying 10k in *state* income taxes, blue staters think you're rich.

"The regulation is a based on a longstanding principle of tax law: When a taxpayer receives a valuable benefit in return for a donation to charity, the taxpayer can deduct only the net value of the donation as a charitable contribution,"

OMG how unfair. Why won't President Trump stop persecuting us

Good. The whole "tax credit for donating to the state" workaround was always rubbish. If you want to fight the idea of a cap on the SALT tax, then fine. This was never a good mechanism.

That's because we don't need tax increases to pay for those things, genius.

Like any budget the trick to spending what you have for the things you want is to stop spending on other things.
Other nations do that, and it works. Less on wasteful defense contracts for sh*t that sits in warehouses and hangars just so some congresscritter can say they brought jobs to Moosenuts, Idaho, more on real infrastructure, social programs, medical care, and education.

Stop spending on dumb shat and spend the money on We The People instead. That is what should be done.

This post is bullshiat. For people with impaired vision, comic sans has a lot of advantages over other fonts. Aesthetically, sure, it's dog poop, but for seniors and others, its easy legibility adds a ton of functionality.

OK, OK, LaRue is admittedly as bad as what people generally think of Comic Sans, but still.

Well, it's just common sense to refuse to help a Republican...they might be an illegal, and the GOP will give you 20 years in prison for that.

I have absolutely no issues paying more in taxes to receive better services.

I take plenty of issue paying more taxes to fund corporate tax breaks and stock buy backs.  If red America wants to pay for that shiate, that's up to them, but this part of the tax plan was designed solely as a "fark you" to the states who didn't slob the Don's knob during the election.  It's a double taxation on the states already paying more into the federal funds than anyone else.

2019-06-12 07:06:20 AM
Less about Blue States than closing a loophole that allowed folks to avoid paying taxes. Not so much a "tax increase" as much as "making folks liable for their taxes again"...

Don't get me wrong, Donnie and Crew pretty much seem to enact everything with as much malice as humanly possible, but in this case, it's less a matter of targeting specific folks, as closing a loophole that allows folks to avoid paying anything at the local level, even if they do have charities enacted, or least organizations nominally titled charities...

2019-06-12 09:03:50 AM
I'd be Ok with this if they didn't cut other folks taxes and cut spending at the time.

What this really is is a big screw for the middle class who have small businesses.

This- if i owned a house here (which I don't, because I'm a contract worker and I like to be able to move) my state income tax + the property tax on the $400000ish house I'd have would be significantly more than this.

I just looked it up and real estate taxes on a 400000 house in upstate NY are about 8-12k a year. my state income taxes look like they're going to run me about $5200-$8k this year.

I'm not rich, either.
