And if a couple of the outbreaks continue to spread and aren't stopped by September the US will lose its status as having measles eliminated

Hollywood needs a movie where the strident antivaxxer lady dies of measles. Maybe offer the lead role to Jenny McCarthy.

Yeah, it sucks when you successfully repel Thanos's army, only to get put on trial for war crimes.

Many of whom eat this anti-vaxxer sh*t right up. There are some influential voices in those communities who allege that the CDC and major drug companies (including former Nazi-supporting Bayer) are in cahoots to hoodwink parents out of their hard earned money and lay the infrastructure for mass extermination.

Andrew Wakefield, Jenny McCarthy and Del Bigtree are hugely influential in the Orthodox cases and I lay the blame on them.

"Voices such as Jenny McCarthy's have proven to be influential, sweeping fear and distrust into parents' minds by parading as "autism experts". Social media and television talk show hosts, such as Oprah Winfrey, played a big role in this miseducation by giving credence to the campaign. This has caused vaccination rates to sustain a surprising drop in some Western countries [2]. The decrease in vaccinations has led to recent outbreaks of diseases that were thought to be "eliminated", such as measles."

covfefe: Just a few measly cases!

An old friend of mine (a normally intelligent person who is in the anti-vax camp) used just that sort of reasoning.  "There's only 800 or so cases of measles.  That isn't bad!  You'd expect more if it was so contagious."

Um...that's because just about everybody is VACCINATED, you farkwit.

I asked her to look up measles infection rates and death rates in the 1950s, from before the invention of the vaccination.  I don't think she ever did.

The PEACH pamphlet played a big part in the Rockland measles outbreak, and the PEACH organization that puts it out seems to have somehow managed to maintain its anonymity, which is quite incredible given what they have caused:

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/measles-outbreak-tracking-down-the-people-behind-anti-vaccine-pamphlet/

Some of what's in the pamphlet is very pro-Trump:

The guide picks and chooses from vaccine history. It notes a meeting between Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. - a vocal critic of vaccines - and President Trump. After the meeting, a spokesperson for Kennedy said that Trump "was exploring the possibility of forming a commission on Autism." (Plans for the commission were stalled as of November 2017.)
Trump won heavily ultra-Orthodox sections of Brooklyn by a wide margin in the 2016 election, and the community has maintained its support for Trump even has his popularity has waned.

This is the thing - Russian propaganda trolls spread the anti-vax b.s. to hurt the U.S.

And that was as successful as their election interference, so...yeah.
