You magnificent evil bastard.

2019-05-13 04:54:53 PM
We really need to start thinking about the world we're gonna leave for that guy to live in.

Carter's probably the strongest argument for splitting the head-of-state and head-of-government roles in the US.

His recovery is expected to slow him down somewhat.

He'll only be able to build 5 houses for homeless families

"I've had a wonderful life," he said. "I've had thousands of friends, I've had an exciting, adventurous and gratifying existence."

MY GOD IS THERE NO END TO YOUR MONSTROUSNESS

That's because of people who stay immobile and/or don't have any help at home developing pneumonia.
He has a chance of making it through this.

/ broke my hip at 41

Recovering from that at 41 is way different from trying to at 94.
Carter's probably going to spend the rest of his life in a wheel chair.

Hip surgery? It's a pretty obscure procedure, you've probably never heard of it.

Well duh of course it's different.
Don't be silly, the slashies were my experience, that's why it wasn't said in the body of my comment.

Unfortunately this.  3 family members passed shortly after breaking their hip.   It's basically the kiss of death.

Anecdotal, I know, but my 70- something mother in-law had hip surgery (and back surgery) a year or two ago and she's trucking along just fine. There is hope.

His main concern is that he hasn't reached his turkey limit, hunting season ends this week, and wants to roll over his unused limit to next turkey season if he's not able to get back out there.

Now THAT, right there ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, is a damn President!

Who Flipped The Crazy Switch On The Matrix: There once was a man, Jimmy Carter
Dear lord, he was an awful farter

That's so bad it reminds me of the riddle that was popular in the DC area when he was president.

Q: What do Jimmy Carter and the Potomac River have in common?
A: They both run in and out of Rosslyn.

Ba-da-bing! But seriously, get-well wishes to one of our better ex-presidents, and maybe one of the most decent men to ever hold the office. I voted for him in '80 but between the Iranian hostage debacle and the recession he never really had a chance. Especially up against Ray-gun.

2019-05-13 05:49:49 PM
God's speed sir. Not my favorite, but certainly the most moral president ever.

It's not the surgery, it's the rehab, and unfortunately a lot of people are simply not fit enough to do what it takes to recover from a hip fracture.  Carter is in excellent shape for his age, and I don't question his motivation to participate in as intensive a PT/OT regimen as he can handle.

2019-05-13 05:52:15 PM
Had 3 age 90+ grandparents (in-laws) who fell which resulted in broken hips and hospitalization.
All 3 remained in hospital, after fall, and died within 9 months.
Like to think that Carter's karma is going to say fark you, I built this hospital, let's let others use it.

/to be honest, I think most 90+ year olds should just pass away in the sunset, myself included, if I get there
//Carter is, however, a lone exception
///got nuthin'

2019-05-13 05:52:41 PM
It's been my experience that the more active someone is, no matter what the treatment, that determines recovery.  Someone who's been sedentary is not going to do as well as someone that still walks, climbs stairs, etc.

If Roslynn is not careful, Jimmy's going to be right back swinging hammers on build sites before July.  Make him take a few weeks off!

2019-05-13 05:53:08 PM
Say what you will about him as a president, but this is a truly honorable man who this Agnostic sees as a true Christian, in every sense of the word.

And he was a sub driver. Bad ASS.

Hope he recovers fully to continue his good works.

One of the truest, most honest, most compassionate, smartest, truly fantastic human beings ever walk to earth, much less the halls of the white house.

Make no mistake, Obama is up there too, and a much better orator, but the degree of humility and service Cater has dedicated his life to is inspiring.

Not to drive home a point too bluntly, but the only republicans I would even consider to have aspired to even a semblance of that integrity would be .. maybe Mitt Romney? And even then, many of his positions could be construed as anti-people-in-favor-of-business, so he doesn't come across as compassionate.

I'm really struggling to think of a republican of the last half century who demonstrated even a shadow of Carter's humility, compassion, integrity or dedication to service without personal gain. But I guess those are considered "liberal" qualities.

Also the post op infection risk, the quicker he can get out of the Hospital the better.  This is where being rich really pays off, you can afford the home healthcare.
