Meh, spiders ride me all the time. Like this little girl. 5 miles on my hat, all the while keeping her egg sac safe.

I haven't seen that before today.

My reaction:
"Oh my god.
Oh my GOD.
Oh, my God."

Then I realized I'm facing sideways in my swivel chair, looking over my shoulder at the screen.

And then the needle in the eye.

Why? Does your arachnophobia prevent you from imagining a scenario where someone wouldn't immediately murder something harmless yet kinda-icky?

I can believe non-murder part.  I'd drop that hat, but I wouldn't squish it.

It's the "letting it ride on your head without having it in direct visual contact to confirm it isn't getting ready to crawl down your shirt" part that I question.

If you're chill, they're chill; if you panic, they panic. We produce pheremones, even if we don't consciously pick up on them.. spiders and other small creatures live in a world of smells and we are much bigger than them... so if you start freaking out when you have a spider or whatever riding on you, then you're producing fear/aggression pheromones on a scale around 50,000 times that they're capable of or used to.

So, keep calm, *don't* produce the behavior-triggering chemicals and don't get bit.

1.) How did it not concern you that she laid a billion eggs of NOPE on something you routinely wear on your head?  While you were actively wearing it on your head?

2.) How did you not shriek like a girl when you discovered it?

/You sound like a spider

"Keep calm, don't get stung". Works with hornets, too. I say so in every thread involving any sort of insect but you've usually "NOPE'D" out of there long before then, so now I'm telling you directly.

Spazz.

Eh, I had a pet tarantula that I let crawl on my face but I understand how fear-inducing they are for a lot of people. I freak out a little around a wasp, but those bastards sting with little provocation.

Cane spiders are pretty harmless, fast though.

We have wasps around that sting them and drag them away to their doom which is awesome and terrible at the same time.

My brother totaled his brand new Cavalier eons ago because of a bee in the cabin.  He hit a tree.

I still can't quite wrap my head around that--you drive around with windows open, bees and wasps happen, man.

When my daughters were young they would find a spider in the house, put a glass over it, slide a piece of paper under the glass & let it go outside. They were raised to understand everything in nature has it's place. Treat nature with respect, & she'll treat you the same. They are all grown up now, the baby is 29. And they still have that same respect.

/my baby's 29

I've worried about this with my son, he is very Arachnophobic, with good reason. He was bitten on the tongue by a Black Widow when he was three and a half, he tried his best to die on us. It was bad enough when I walked into the Pediatricians office the girl took one look at him, left her desk and took us to a room. The Dr. swept into the room less than a minute later, checked him out, picked him up turned to the Nurse and said, "Call an Ambulance now."  He (Dr.) rode in the ambulance holding him all the way to the Hospital. He told me later he didn't know if he was going to make it to the Hospital. {That's a sentence no parent ever wants to hear} He overreacts to spiders except for Granddaddy Long Legs and Tarantulas, he can't explain why they don't bother him. I could see something like this happening.

Now if either a Daddy Legs or Tarantula were to 'blindside' him he will freak. If he sees them no issue.

I love the wilderness, but you are a far braver person then I could ever be! Spiders are fine from a distance.  On me, sorry you have to go! Quickly!
