Like Bernie (and plenty of Farkers) said - the losing strategy for Dems is to keep talking about Trump. I mean, it worked so well in 2016, why not repeat?

Don't get me wrong, I think Trump's going to win a second term. But that's more because people don't really give enough of a sh*t about his abuses in light of the economy being "good", not because the Democrats are investigating him.

/not to mention misogyny (if another female candidate gets the nomination) and more Russian interference
//if this were any other country, there'd be constant general strikes and daily protests.

You mean the Mueller report that documented sustained contact between the Trump campaign and the Russian government? That stated that Trump would ordinarily be prosecuted for obstruction of justice if the Trump-controlled Justice Department didn't treat the president as being above prosecution? That was grossly represented by Trump's stooge AG according to Mueller himself?

I fully expect Trump to be claiming that he's opening a new hotel as he's marched into federal prison, and on that day I also expect thousands of his followers to be awaiting their trip on the spaceship after they've finished drinking their flavor aid and putting on their matching jumpsuits.

You write that as if Trump was wearing a brown suit with his feet on his desk as he called for more Grey Poupon.

Yes, not calling Trump on his bullshiat is a totally winning strategy. I think we should maintain a separate set of rules for him while we hold every other contender to the normal standards.

Exposing Trump's crimes hurts him. It's the Trumper line of "logic" that says it makes him stronger. It's because they want to scare us away from investigating his wrongdoing. The same goes for impeachment. No, he probably won't get thrown out because Republicans, but getting the entire country talking about his illegal activities will hurt him, not help him.

If you're still not sure, just look at the fact that Trump himself has embraced the "getting impeached will help me" fallacy. As we know by now, if Trump says it, you know it's a lie.

That's cute, not sure about CNN but MSNBC repeatedly on every show took the time to establish that collusion was not a chargeable crime and they'd have to prove that it reached the highly placed bar for criminal conspiracy.

They'd noted as did many of their guests that the hurdle for that was most likely too high and it was always going to come down.to the obstruction of justice part of the investigation.

The only one's going collusion and sticking their fingers in their ears going "Nanananana!" were Trump and the state media.

The problem comes in when candidates try to make the election about Trump and then spend way too much time saying the word "Trump" over and over.  If a candidate talks about the problems in this country and genuinely offers solutions she will have a better time at the polls than her Trump mentioning competition.  Trump is a symptom of a sick system in need of attention.

Trump's campaign saw Bernie gain a lot of supporters very quickly and they took notes.  Trump started using populist language in an attempt to lure people who are disaffected by the system.  He added those numbers to the already weird coalition of the Republican Party: Anti-Abortionists, pro-gun nuts, 1%ers, Religious extremists, (and I'm sure I'm forgetting some).  The Republican Party's hold on this new faction of their coalition, the people who want to see systemic change, is not set in stone and can be taken away, by a politician who genuinely also wants to see systemic change.

To be fair, I doubt the Democratic tool box really had much to counter "opponents willingly accepts aid from a hostile foreign government" and "holy shiat there are way more racist, misogynist white people left than we thought."

But to be fair, going to the Midwest ever might have helped. As would putting a POC on the ticket instead of generic boring white guy Tim Kaine.

And also to be fair, American style democracy is broken well beyond repair and it is only going to get more evident in the coming years.
