(Some Guy)   When Subby was a kid, we had all the strange flavors of ice cream you could shake a stick at, full if artificial colors and flavors: Bubble Gum, Cherry Cheesecake, Anthrax Ripple, you name it. What "classic" flavor do you miss?   (highsicecream.com) divider line

They're probably still around, but orange push-up pops were my go-to when the ice cream truck came by.

A local dairy used to make a strawberry shortcake ice cream that was freaking delicious. I'd definitely like to have that again.

Baskin Robbins used to have something called Daiquiri Ice. I absolutely loved it. I've not been to a Baskin Robbins in ages though i heard they changed it to Margarita Ice. Great stuff.

I don't have to go back very far; Turkey Hill just stopped making Double Dunker. It was coffee ice cream with a fudge ripple, cookie dough chunks, and bits of Oreo. It was magical and now it's gone.

Schwan's Push-Ems. Orange sherbet was my favorite but the chocolate malt was good too.

They probably still exist  but I don't live in the states anymore and I think Japan is outside their delivery zone.

There is no second R in Sherbet , that's all I got.

Apparently, it's an "octopusses V octipodes" thing.

TL;DR version: Either spelling works.

I just wish I could find strawberry ice cream it doesn't seem to be made or sold around here anymore.  I  usually wait for strawberry season* and make my own strawberry syrup and add it to vanilla.

*those giant bland year round strawberries they have in the grocery store are disgusting.

Whenever I go out for ice cream I like to get a banana split. It's one of those special treats I was rarely allowed when I was a wee lad. I'm always surprised by the number of shops that have no idea what I'm talking about when I ask for a banana split.

/ dumb story
I read the menu at one ice cream shop, no banana split, so when I was asked what I wanted I simply pointed above their heads and said I want whatever that is in the picture on the menu. They were clueless. They had no idea what it was or what to charge for it. I'm watching four people saying stuff like, "I think that's butterscotch drizzled on it" "Are those cherries?" "What flavor is on the right?"

They ended up giving me a reasonable facsimile for a reasonable price. I was content.

/ end dumb story

// second dumb story

Shop in Annapolis had a banana split, so I ordered it. Girl behind the counter asks "What flavor ice cream do you want in it?"  to which I replied "Surprise me". She was flummoxed. She went to a coworker and told her what I said and they spent several minutes trying to figure out what flavor(s) to use. They eventually settled on vanilla.

I'm guessing those young ladies weren't hired for their minds.

I have an ice cream maker, therefore I have all of the flavors. I highly recommend cherry amaretto when cherries are in season.
Hmm...I should try that this year when the sour cherries are ripe...

Agreed.  The growers have focused on size and now the berries taste like cardboard.

Giant supermarkets around here have a container of frozen sliced strawberries in sugar.  Those are somewhat smaller, and have an acceptable taste and juiciness.  I use them on ice cream, cereal, and when I make my Mom's strawberry shortcake.

There was a local place that made something called Cinnamon Caramel that was awfully good. But nationally, I seem to recall Bresler's making a Grape Sherbet that pretty much permanently stained any articles of clothing it touched. It was delicious.

Had a Highs in town while growing up.. really liked the Butter Brickle..  nobody has it anymore, though Turkey Hill tried it a few years ago.. spot on, but they then discontinued it.

Highs Ice Cream banana pudding ice cream.  Amazing stuff.  Full of artificial flavors that have since been rendered illegal by several international weapons treaties.  Made me the freak I am today.

I don't miss them, 'cause I can usually still find them:
Rum Raisin
Butter Pecan
Maple Walnut.
A big plus is that no one else in the house will touch them. So if run out for ice cream and come back with two containers, they'll share one, the other is just mine. I always offer, though, and feign surprise when they refuse.
A little harder to find: Tutti frutti

Amen - that stuff was amazing.  I used to love daiquiri freezes made with that stuff.  Seeing as how I was allergic to milk, at least I had one thing I could eat there that was awesome.

I don't seem to be able to find Rum Raisin anymore and it was always one of my favorites. I usually have Maple Walnut or Ben & Jerry's Pistachio Pistachio instead.

When I was a kid my dad drove for Hood delivering ice cream to supermarkets, restaurants and snack bars around the northern part of the state. We had a chest freezer downstairs with all the flavors plus every novelty you can imagine. That was nice.

Yes I still love getting my ice cream fix but now I have to buy it myself.

When it comes to ice cream I prefer the classics: chocolate, strawberry, vanilla bean, orange sherbet & vanilla (rippled). So many of the 'modern flavors are too SWEET.

Push-Ups is how I remember them too. Maybe the name was contested by other similar products.

I want to say it was the store brand from Publix supermarkets.  I think Great Value had it too.  I haven't seen it at either place in a while, though I don't shop at Walmart much anymore.
