It's okay. We still don't have answers for Obama's inadequate response to 9/11!

So Laffer is an idiot, huh?

Oh well. I didn't actually know that for sure as his curve could have been taken out of context by the right. I guess not then.

The notion that a major world-wide financial crisis would happen because of the possible election of someone (regardless of who that person is) is pretty high on the list of stupidest claims ever made by the American right.

They will never get over the fact that a black family lived in the White House for eight years, and during those years unemployment went from 8.1 percent to 4.3 percent. The black man had no second-term scandal like a BJ or Iran-contra. The black man gave great speeches. The black man did not burn anything down. And he is still very much loved today. This attempted rewriting will not end anytime soon.

those who have a LITTLE BIT less? way to minimize wealth disparity so much it needs a microscope to be seen.

although maybe he has a point. those who are making $999,000/yr instead of $1,000,000/yr don't need assistance. I bet that's what he meant. Jennifer *oh yeah uh huh thumbs up.gif* Lawrence agrees.

Arthur Laffer. Along with Grover Norquist, gifts that keeps on grifting. I had never heard of Norquist before he came up on AM talk radio. Laffer I first heard of in college when the College Libtertarians were trying to explain taxation to me, some 40 years ago.

I hate to agree, even in the slightest amount, with Art Laffer.  But he does have one thing right:

The 1% in this country were pants-shiattingly afraid of what a black man in the White House would mean - and there was more-or-less a capital strike for a large portion of Obama's presidency, which led to the longer and slower than usual recovery from said Recession.  But to blame Obama for that is like blaming a woman who wears a dress for being raped.

He gave a very well received speech at the Democratic Convention in 2004.  That was his intro to the country for most people who paid any attention to politics.

(1) The Laffer Curve was first mentioned by Ibn Khaldun several centuries earlier, so let's call it by the name of it's inventor, the Ibn Khaldun Curve.

(2) Empirical research that attempts to locate the peak of the Ibn Khaldun Curve (the point at which raising taxes decreases revenue due to reducing the incentives to make money) place it between 60% and 70%, so the US could crank up tax rates considerably to the net benefit of everyone except the plutocrats who actually control things.

(3) Arthur Laffer is a partisan hack.

Sometimes to get liberals on board with sound fiscal policy, you need to reduce the thought down to the utmost simplicity even though it could be construed as being wrong under analysis.

His star was definitely on the rise to the point where he was already stumping for other Dems. I remember him speechifying for Bob Menendez in Hoboken back around 2006.

Sarcasm or stupid?

Jake Havechek: Good lord, the stupidity.

It isn't stupidity. He knows exactly what he's saying, and that is all about maintaining the narrative that the poor, who must subsist on table scraps from the wealthy, can be better served if we only give the wealthy bigger meals.

It is a lie. It was a lie in the 1870s, it was a lie in the 1900s, it was a lie in the 1920s and it is a goddamn lie now. He knows he's lying, that's why people who use his "data" become increasingly vehement and strident when making the argument as it blows up in their faces every goddamn time. They will do literally anything to preserve their point of view. Anything.

Make certain people wealthy enough and they start building their own Armies in defense of that lie. That's what's happened in Russia. If Vladimir Putin were to somehow drop dead, the Russian Federation would be in a civil war within three days.

Determining that inflection point is incredibly difficult in a system of progressive marginal taxation.  Also it would be a mistake to presume it's static.  But you're sure as hell right that we aren't anywhere close to it.

Let me go ahead and break down for you how to resolve every inconsistency you might think you see in the Republican agenda. If you ever think, "Why would they pursue this path or policy that leads to obvious ruination?"

Just like with politics, the Trump bootlickers (who include most of the racists, the highly ignorant, the easily conned, the misogynists, the bullies, and scared shiatless self-haters) understand the concept of the economy just as well as they understand basic science, history, philosophy, compassion, and the rest of the world entirely- Which is to say Not At All. They seem to live their entire existence caught in a mis-information bubble, created for them, defended by them, and believed only by them.  Like with any topic about governance, they don't KNOW anything, other than what they're told. And they can only repeat what they're told. Everything else is fake. Yet they consider themselves politically aware. That is the dumbification of America. They drag us down, for no reason other than to help evil old unAmerican bastards stay in power.
And that's all, really. Because there IS no other reason. It's sick.

They have a point. It's a factually true statement that Barack Obama did NOT issue any Presidential aid to New Orleans in 2005. He also did nothing about the Visigoth sacking of Rome.

If dems used Gingrichian narrative control to get the idea that trickle-down was invented by Muslins out there, would Republicans give it up?

/No, but it's a moderately amusing thought, imo.

Fake news. The real unemployment rate was 138.4% and people were burning money for heat, selling their car for gas, and building homes out of buffalo hides.

Africans were free and happy people before Obama started the slave trade as a way to punish his political rivals in his homeland of Africa.

These people have selective brains. W never existed; we went from Bill Clinton straight to Obama where he screwed up 9/11, Katrina, Enron, and the economy.

It's sad that I can see them believe all that.
