So nothing has changed - nobody knows how to prevent or delay dementia

So you have to have a Plan B  - Mine  is to make sure I have suitable caregivers ready to keep me comforted with alcohol, drugs and my favorite books and videos (which I will be able to consume as new every day)

I thought we were zapping people now to fix memory loss - at least that's what I've been telling grandma...

It's strange that after decades of research and billions of dollars thrown at this disease, we've gotten nowhere.  We don't know what causes it and we have no cure for it.

What's strange is that we have no cure for this disease, despite decades of research and billions of dollars thrown at it.

Needlessly Complicated: Did they try a poop transplant? Those seem to cure everything.

FOX news has been injecting shiat straight into people's brains for a couple of decades and you see what we have for president. I'd say that approach doesn't work. Or maybe it does depending on your viewpoint.

Old age and/or heredity cause it.
There's only one cure for old age.

What about CBD poop transplants?  Worth a shot, eh?  I smoked a banana peel once just to see what would happen.

I mean... they do.  It's the second half of subby's sarcastic headline.

You might want to worry about being the post at the top of the thread and already having forgotten that.

There is no cure in the headline.
It states you can slow the decline, not stop it or avoid it.

I think you need to get checked.

"multicomponent fix of exercise, diet, individualized cognitive training, and social activities to slow down cognitive decline"

...things stupid people say to try to sound smart.

Let's see you put that in numbers. If you can't measure it, it doesn't exist.

Well, old age does not cause it, as we all know people who got old without getting it.

I'm going to hope flossing is the key.

Hmm that's true, forget the "or" in my comment.
My dad died at 47, but my mom has dementia, and their combined 15 siblings all got it in their mid 80s to early 90s.
Lucky for me I'm not projected to live as long. Yay, silver lining!

You'd still be old, though, unfortunately.

Malaria is getting a kick out of your reply.
Alzheimers is in the brain, which can't be easily fixed since we didn't know that much about how it works coontil fairly recently).  The brain is in a compartment of your body protected by the blood brain barrier which makes conventional pharmaceuticals very difficult to develop (it prevents most stuff from getting into your brain from the rest of the body).
The brain, eyes, and spinal cord are also separate from the central immune system, which we also don't know that much about.
So an infection leading to a unique type of brain fibrosis is not out of the question.
How do we stop a process that we don't understand?
