Assange strikes me as a guy who could wear out his welcome anywhere.
Kind of surprised it took this long.

I don't think it would have mattered.  Moreno was tightening the screws on Assange before Assange published anything about Ecuador or Moreno.  Moreno didn't like Assange, and was trying to find a way to get rid of him, but probably for political reasons couldn't just kick him out.  So he started tightening the screws on Assange.

It's kind of like when you've got a boss that hates you, and they start concentrating on your screw-ups (which everyone has) and blowing them all out of proportion, and they start building up a case to fire you.

2019-04-15 09:24:43 AM
Ecuador originally took the guy in thinking it would be for a short time, a year or two at most. They figured that eventually it would all blow over and they'd be able to get him out (and still look like the "good" guys) or that some other superpower (Russia) would step up and take him off their hands. As time went on and neither happened, they started to realize that they could end up stuck with the guy forever. So, they started with passive-aggressive tactics and reductions in the services they provided him in an attempt to force him to leave of his own accord. He responded to this with his usual childlike immaturity, which only made things worse between him and his "hosts". Eventually, something had to give, and Ecuador (literally and figuratively) got sick of his shiat.

Once again, Assange has nobody to blame for his situation than himself. And, being a narcissistic bastard that's unable to accept responsibility for farking anything that doesn't generate good PR for himself, he's dealing with it the only way he knows how. I hope he makes lots of friends in the multiple prisons he's going to spend the rest of his life in.

There's a difference between being a whistleblower and a tattletale.

Assange has no idea there's a difference.

Fark is aware that socialism is the ultimate goal of democracy, right?  Republican brain bugs are clearly aware of this--it's why they make statements like capitalism is more important than democracy.Or in layman's terms: Our 'right' to overcharge and underpay you is more important than your right to participate in the determination of your destiny.

Wasn't part of this that Assange's whole stay there was because the previous president (Correa) was a huge fan? That seems like the easiest explanation.

Table for three next to a bed with that table cloth? Easy on the "Luxury Hotel" label; sounds like someone is trying to throw a bit more gas on the fire.

Having been cooked, I believe the lobster gave up any ability to give consent prior to being eaten in bed.

I just dont want pictures of Bernie eating lobsters in bed at the Ritz Carlton in 4 years.  Maybe AOC, but that's for different reasons entirely.

Yes, I think I read somewhere that part of Moreno's election issues/positions was to get rid of Assange (not a major issue I imagine) if on nothing else - based on a cost reason.  I'm sure it's not Ecuador's first priority as a developing country to pay for some foreigner's indefinite stay at their London embassy.

How do we know he actually did that?

The only people who claim it to be true is the Ecuadorian embassy staff, and they could have been under orders to manufacture evidence against Assange.  And with him being cut-off from the outside World for at least a year, there was no way for him to claim the allegations were false, if he even heard of them:

Russia is the super power that former President Correa was behold too.  This was not a humanitarian thing, but a favor to Putin.

Lobster isn't that pretentious when you're visiting relatives in Maine and are nearly passed out drunk laying on the floor and shoveling it in your mouth in between pushing the dog away from your plate. That was a fun week.

"Could have" does not equal "were in fact." I'm inclined to take the word of multiple witnesses absent some evidence they were actually coerced.

He was not cut off from the outside world. They took away his internet privileges, but he had a balcony where he frequently gave press conferences, as well as frequent visitors (including Pamela Anderson, of all people).

No, it is not.  Democracy is the will of the people.  If the people want socialism then democracy should bring it to them.  If they do not then it should not.

Or, you know, he could have actually done that. Even the article you posted says his internet privileges were revoked when he couldn't stop actin' a fool. If your gracious host asks you to stop doing things that might interfere with other states, and you continue doing them, that is a metaphorical smearing of feces on your host's walls.

To a tween, or someone like Assange who has a tween-like maturity level, removing internet privileges is indistinguishable from being cut-off from the outside world.

Also, Pamela Anderson?

In which case, a savvy person sees the writing on the wall and works on an exit strategy or contingency plan. A self-entitled asshole just insults the boss, screws up on purpose, and makes the eventual firing easier and quicker.

We should have a caption contest with that photo, describing the various ways he was kicked out. I already have a couple in mind.

Screw it, I'll get this rodeo started:

All that photo proves is that someone ate a lobster and that he got in bed.  No temporal inferences should be drawn, nor can be drawn in a court of--  Oh. This is Fark.

Recalculating...

It's not easy to make true narcissists want to kill themselves. Aside from being cowards, they're hard coded to cling on to anything in the belief that this, THIS, is the point where they turn the tables on their opposition.

What I'm saying is that we have a lot of work to do.
