At what point does "baby shower" just become "party"?  Certainly well before midnight.  I'm guessing like 7pm?

The first birthday party that kid has at a Chuck E. Cheese is gonna make Pol Pot look like a nice reasonable fellow.

Compared to a lot of places around the so-called Inland Empire, looking at you San Bernardino and Rialto, Upland isn't very methy trashy and is a somewhat upscale middle-class community.

I thought it said unplanned baby shower. I figured it had to do with unplanned pregnancy.

It's stories like this that make me call the local news "The Who Got Shot Today Report".

Twenty million people or so live in Greater Los Angeles.  Of those 20 million people, somebody got shot today.  Probably several somebodies.  But, unless I know the shooter or, um, shootee, personally, I don't really care much.  But the local news has to spend literally half it's time talking about such shootings.  Shot of reporter standing in the street with crime tape behind him or her, prerecorded shot of the house or building where the shooting took place, interview with grieving relatives, interview with bystanders who saw/heard the shooting, interview with detectives working the case, rinse, repeat.

So, take all the reports of the various shootings, add in commercials and promos, the wacky weather guy, the sports report, the entertainment reporter sucking up to various celebrities, and you get an hour long news broadcast that has about five minutes of actual news in it.

Normally you plan on showering the baby with gifts - or maybe water. Not blood splatter.

With the explosive growth of the internets and information being everywhere, one would assume that somewhere in the article, banner head, website header might mention that this was in California.  Find this with many linked articles from some newspaper or TV station.  Many times not even sure what country the website is reporting from or about

Also agree that by midnight I would say one has morphed from baby shower into basic drunken gathering

May have been gang related.

I'm shocked.

Let me guess, did someone underestimate the circumference of mom's baby bump?

Only on a weeknight. Weekend women-only showers sometimes involve bar hopping later. Well, at least in my town.

Curious, what do you define as "actual news?"

Tons of websites fark this up, I have no idea what's with the blind spot.  No, people that live in other places are not necessarily going to know where the hell you're talking about, article.  WTB oldschool place/date/time headers on news articles.

Web site is KTLA, well known TV station in Los Angeles, California. First sentence identifies Upland; later info gives the address. So here.
