You don't realize how much freedom we have here in the US (even under Trump) until you see people people arrested in the UK just for posting a video of burning cardboard.

I'm curious how they determine what is "grossly offensive".

I happened to be in London when that fire happened. It dominated the news for days and people were very shook up about it.

I don't know what the penalty for humor in poor taste in the U.K. is. I think a swift kick to the groin should probably suffice.

The UK has completely lost the plot when it comes to this stuff and they are totally wrong.

Fortunately it seems to be limited to the inbred islanders so far and other European countries also have freedom of speech written into their constitutions.

Being the Daily Star, I'm going to take the tiny step of assuming there's more to this than what the paper is printing.

Perhaps: "Local idiot starts bonfire without permit, films it, gets arrested after providing us a clickbait angle".  Perhaps: "We 100% made this up."  Come the fark on.  It's the Daily Star.  For people not principled enough to work for the Daily Mail, or the Weekly Wipe.

ASBO, it's like the laws that allow American police to do anything they want when they want and however they want, but not necessarily involving a suspicion of drugs, firearms, alchohol or one drop of black blood.

Let me mainsplain it to you, Chicago Gangster Cowboy Savage Barbarian. (I know it's you, Al Bundy.)

"Liberty", the "pursuit of happeness" and even "the right to life" is not "licence to go medieval". The British also value peace, order and good government although they have precious little of them sometimes. Anything you do which is obnoxious to the comfort, peace, happiness, prosperty, property, life, health or common weal can and will be used against you in a Court of Law.

Some of the beaks are reactionary old fools and bastids, but some of them comprise a thin black line of civilizastion, wearing 600 GPB weigs like something out of the early 18th or late 17th century. Behind them is a thin blue line, and then a then red line.

They will beat you over the head with sticks, but they are not allowed to shoot you in your own home, even for the high crime and misdemeanour of being "black" in "our" "white" space and time.

Are you sure you have the right God? I thought it was the Flying Spaghetti Moster who forbids burning things that aren't meant to be seared or blackened. Maybe I am confusing the FSM with the Monsters of Cajun Cooking. But since every British person has to make an ersatz version of Spaghetti Bologna or something like, I think the FSM is the most logical and pious interpretation to put on British Law and Custom.

Don't worry about War Crimes, people. The USA doesn't not recognize the Court of International Justice and blithely disregards its own Constitution and Laws, let alone them furrin international laws. You are as safe as Trump in a gold plated panic room when a protestor (white, Republican) waives a protest sign.

No, it was not "misgendering" someone.

A women was arrested and questioned under police caution for a campaign of harassment. Something that is illegal in the US as well.

Either way, in the US the police typically don't go straight to arrest and interrogation for harassment.

Or how about "You are not responsible for someone else's feelings." Britain's culture of "If it's offensive, it's wrong" encourages people to crank their sensitivity up as high as possible to gain the 'moral highground.'
