"Using a branch of mathematics called evolutionary game theory to explore this feature of human societies, my collaborators and I found that empathy - a uniquely human capacity to take another person's perspective - might be responsible for sustaining such extraordinarily high levels of cooperation in modern societies."

Well that explains why the GOP is dedicated to destroying modern society

What exactly is "manspreading"? Is it simply sitting in a relaxed fashion or do you also have to be encroaching on people in the seat next to you or leering at the female across the aisle from you?

To start off maybe, but humans didn't invent monopoly busting rules for shiats and giggles. All capitalism needs is a captive market. If you can't buy stuff anywhere else, owners do gangbusters. Doesn't matter if the rabble is poor, because capitalism isn't a living person with empathy, just a form of a societal economy.

Traditionally, one of the major weaknesses of game theory was its seemingly sociopathic model of human behavior.  It expects people to act far more dickish than they do in experiments or the real world.  Hopefully these guys can generalize their model of empathy to other game-theoretic problems and start bringing results in line with actual non-CEO behavior.

If your legs are in places where people will either trip over them or won't be able to sit next to you because there won't be room for their own legs, I think you've reached the standard manspreading status. Leering is optional, it just adds a creep factor bonus to the process.
