I stay on Facebook only to stay connected with some old, old friends and family that I otherwise would never hear from or about. But man, the hatred gets old. Some people that I never would have guessed are misogynist, racist scumbags have outed  themselves. It's kind of disappointing, really.

Nobody I know actually makes posts on Facebook. Its normally a few pictures of things, and a handy way to set up invites to things.

/and a few friends and ex's who are showoffs on Insta

Steve Jobs had no bodyguards and drive by himself to work. Suckberg is no Jobs.

He drove himself. And he would routinely park in handicap spaces. And just pay the fine.

These are not nice people.

Ah, yes, "hackers" got the info by "stealing it"....sure...I totes believe that was how the "breach" went down.

"Dude...if you want, we can just GIVE you the passwords to let you download as much stuff as you want. I mean, yeah, you got to pay for it, but just think of the scale of identity theft you can wreak with just these passwords and all the bits that these losers just post...just leave the money in the box, and we'll send you what you need..."

It's a free "service" ... you get exactly the level of security you pay for I guess?

They are a private company, they can spend their own money however they want... really no room for moral outrage here.  If you are dumb enough to use their service and post information you care about losing, that's kinda on you?

Would anyone even go up and talk to that 6ft tall thumb if he was just wandering around without security? I guess this day and age he probably needs it because people are furious at his involvement with election interference and his and Facebooks seeming approval of white nationalist and terrorist groups for a dollar. Before that people probably didn't care who the fark he was and wouldn't recognize him.

I bet most wealthy people (including Gates and Buffett) spend way less on security than the self-important douchebag frkkerberg.

The problem is Facebook says they care about protecting user data.

Now I don't use Facebook, but they keep saying they take data protection seriously.

Something about fool me once?

Again, you pay nothing for it ... yet expect something out of it?  Its naive to think they are going to do anything that doesn't net them a profit.

Until anything affects their bottom line, nothing will change...it's all they fundamentally care about.

If you continue to use that service, don't act surprised when something goes awry.

I wonder when the  preemptive mocking of "quit facebook in 20xx" trope will be replaced by similar treatment of "here are my flimsy excuses for my full support of this platform."

/Maybe around when the hard-on for unprovoked jibes at vegans or cross-fitters softens.

I totally believe that data security is important to them. They can't sell the data for much if anyone could just hack in and take it.

This is why I want to pay for services I use. I would totally pay for Google to be a customer.

Google makes a shiat ton of money off of you and your info. Same revenue streams as FB. Please don't pay them voluntarily.

if i was worth multi millions i'd have bodyguards too. there are freaks out there that will kill you for $10. no one needs amateurs cutting off your fingers for a ransom that never works out well.

I pay for Fark because I suspect Drew would prefer my money instead of dealing with ads.

In the US. There are some places, though, where Facebook is effectively the internet. Burma, for instance, where Facebook played a role in the ethnic cleansing.

Wow, like how mods will make edits to your post without making any sort of annotation that it's been edited by mods. That's not creepy or shiatty at all. So they can essentially make anyone say anything they want if you don't actually come back to your post.

Online ads are apparently just graphical receipts.  On the rare occasions I browse without my adblocker on, I see multiple images per page hawking a product I already bought 2 weeks ago.
