Tbf, it isn't for most of them since they were vaccinated and grew watching shows where kids survived faking it all the time.

This is what measels looks like. It hurts, will leave scars and can kill. It will leave your immune system compromised for years leaving you more prone to other infections and less common complications include brain damage. And it can all be prevented with a $20 vaccine.

Serious question.

Do we know what's really driving this?  It makes absolutely no logical sense whatsoever.  There are decades and mountains of evidence demonstrating that they are dangerous idiots.  Yet this has gone from a random curiosity that is laughed at to a growing threat to the public health.

What the fark happened here?

As much as I would hate to see someone have to go through it. (I'm a parent & grandparent) Part of me wants to see what happens when a few of the anti-vaxxers kids die from 1 of these simple to protect our kids from diseases.

Marcus Aurelius: Anti-vaxxers do not think.  If they thought, then they wouldn't be anti-vaxxers.

The problem is that they do think. They read and discuss lots of relevant material and go through complex mental gymnastics to justify themselves while still claiming to respect science.

Intelligence, like logic, is still affected by the "garbage in, garbage out" rule. Their problem isn't a lack of intelligence, but rather a lack of trust and humility.

I'm going to go with Oprah + Jenny McCarthy + Jim Carrey + social media + ignorance within isolated communities.

People rather believe junk science than actual science because it requires logical thinking to believe in the latter (and they're just flat out dumb).

A lot of the anti-vaxxers I know have a quasi-religious belief that natural is always better. They don't vaccinate, they don't see regular doctors (primary care is chiropractic!), they buy organic produce, they're either vegan or paleo diet people, they unschool their kids, etc.  They usually hold extreme political beliefs--right or left. Also a lot of conspiracy theorists and young-earthers. I'm in a state with low vaccine rates and our family homeschools so I come across quite a few. We tend to hang out with pro-science people--lots of parents with math and science degrees--and strangely enough, we all vaccinate our kids.

Stupid people who profoundly distrust scientific authority and scientific authority which has done itself no favours by treating the public like idiots. If you want an immunisation campaign to be successful, have it led by nurses and not by doctors.

Apropos of nothing, just a small anecdote of how far this shiat has gone. CSB:

About a week ago me and a friend are eating at a greasy spoon popular with the blue hair crowd. My friend knows the waitress, and my friend and her family normally tip the waitress an extra buck for her kid. Not sure how it came up, but the waitress mentioned she isn't getting her kid vaccinations because of some corn product in it. </CSB>

Wtf? I can't find anything online about corn in vaccines. Her and her son aren't allergic to corn, and I'm pretty sure 99% of their diet consists of processed corn or corn by-product in some form or fashion. But she won't get her son vaccines because of corn. Wut. Da. Fuq. Also bear in mind she votes straight ticket Republican.

/Thankfully MS doesn't allow vaccinated kids in public schools
//Your state probably does, though
