So... they've named it after a concerted effort by a far-right dictatorship to wear down and destroy a democracy? Well, it looks like they may have some self-awareness after all.

But that what these theocratic boneheads WANT.  Bully tactics float their boats.  The problem is, the vast majority of the under-80 IQ crowd in the red and flyover states absolutely ADORE bullies.  Even when THEY get bullied, they feel privileged.

Their heads are 100% concrete.

In Texas, as noted above, a Project Blitz bill, SB-17, just passed the State Senate. It would allow anti-LGBTQ discrimination by any licensed professional. (Technically, such a professional could still be sued for discrimination, but could rely on the law at trial.) In rural Texas, this could easily mean a total lack of services. It's not just health care professionals who could wantonly hold people's lives in their hands. If passed, an LGBTQ Texan could well die of heatstroke because of an air-conditioning repair person's "sincerely held religious belief," as pointed out by Emmett Schelling, executive director of the Transgender Education Network of Texas, in an April 8 press conference call.

All religions require fear and intimidation tactics to increase membership. They don't exclusively rely on these tactics, but they're part of the package if the religion is to grow, the "stick" part of the carrot-and-stick approach.

Some aspects of religion probably have been good, at times, for strengthening society, or for helping with safety when the root causes of illness were not understood. Unfortunately fundamentalism seems to ignore its own rules when it comes to the treatment of other people, and often continues to try to enforce outdated rules that are superseded by better understanding of the root causes of things. To pick on Judaism for a moment, a proscription on the consumption of pork probably made sense thousands of years ago when both animal husbandry practices and food preparation practices meant that pork had above average odds of harming the consumer, but now that we know how to rear pigs and how to cook slaughtered pigs safely, there's basically no safety case against consuming pork versus any other animal.

In American society we're reaching the point of having second- and third-generations of families that are apathetic or confirmed atheist to religion. This might concentrate hard-core zealots into tighter groups, but ultimately it may serve to actually start marginalizing those zealots if their bad behavior in the name of their religion becomes evident to a large population that not only doesn't believe, but finds their antics distasteful, and it might further drive away the apathetic believer that would have gone along with lesser zealotry.

With that false social identity in place, Christian nationalists rationalize the "freedom" to discriminate as a fundamental right, powering a shift from defense to offense, that was perfectly captured by Katherine Stewart in a New York Times op-ed last year, "A Christian Nationalist Blitz." Stewart described participants in a Project Blitz conference call referring to the above law "in awed tones as 'the Mississippi missile.'" To understand why, here's its exact language:
SECTION 2. The sincerely held religious beliefs or moral convictions protected by this act are the belief or conviction that:
(a)  Marriage is or should be recognized as the union of one man and one woman;
(b)  Sexual relations are properly reserved to such a marriage; and
(c)  Male (man) or female (woman) refer to an individual's immutable biological sex as objectively determined by anatomy and genetics at time of birth.

Ah there we go; it allows ONLY discrimination against the gays, trans people, and unwed sluts.

And then when you actually look at the details, you see that the growth of "No faith" has come exclusively from three groups: mainline, black Protestant, and Catholic. Evangelical alone of the religious groups saw growth, not decline, in roughly equal proportion on both under and over 40.

Not mine.  My religion tells me that I will get to laugh and giggle at those who will burn in an eternal lake of fire as their skin is flayed from their bodies while I get to float around on my own special cloud.

On the contrary.  Very few religions do not use fear and intimidation to win and keep adherents.  It's practically a basic definition of religion.

There used to be a huge sign on I-65 in Alabama that said, "Go to church or the Devil will get you!"

Thousands of years ago, we were stupid and required multiple gods to explain everything in this world, including death.  Then as we got smarter, we mostly narrowed it down to one, mostly to explain death.   I'm hopeful that as a society we can continue to evolve and as we get smarter, we will need zero gods.  Probably not in my lifetime though, since there are still a lot of morons in this world.

They understand it, which is why they're pushing for efforts to call for a Constitutional Convention to attempt to replace the US Constitution with something that will keep the theocrats and oligarchs in power:
