I thought it was pretty meh.  Another DC script with potential that went to waste.  It was fun I guess, but I certainly didn't need to see that in a theater.

I'm publicly announcing my upcoming project in this thread, that if you enjoyed Shazam!, you have been selected for a brave new experimental project in which we will be shooting people into the sun.  I don't have the specifics hammered down quite yet, but I have my scientists hard at work, determining the process of maximum suffering for all of the passengers on board as their bodies melt into the finer atomic components of the universe.

If you have any recommendations for improving the suffering of all individuals on-board, please let me know.  We may make Deadpool 2 the in-flight movie or something.

Captain Marvel will probably fall out of the top 5 next week, so this might be our last chance to talk about incels, people!

I still haven't seen Shazam yet.. the other day, I was remembering that on the old TV show, I think I first thought that his name was Captain Marble.. since Marvel wasn't really part of my vocabulary as a 5 year old..

Farking incels.

Their foul taint is everywhere. There was a suggested link in my youtube feed yesterday titled "A few Quibbles about Captain Marvel".

While I could have easily ignored it, I felt it was my duty solemn duty (as one of the "good" ones) to bring everyone's attention to it, and to let them know how much I disapproved of it...

I'll try to find it again, and post it here (and then we can complain about how the "Incels" have invaded this thread!)

Farking incels.

Like Wonder Woman and Tomb Raider before it, Captain Marvel has proven that women can accomplish anything, so long as you are a photogenic white woman who has the "Hollywood look" and is from an upper-middle-class background with the disposable income for vanity pursuits like theatre, and can then be repurposed into a "badass action hero" through six weeks of beginner kickboxing classes.

Thank you for making the shiatpost that allowed me to impulsively react with a counter-shiatpost, thus providing me an excuse to exert my will to power on society.

It is at $386M, but is now making single digits.
If it hits $399M then Disney will make sure it hits $400

So you want Captain Marvel to be an 80 year old paraplegic trans Inuit?

That will satisfy you?

Saw Pet Sematary on my own the other day as a treat to myself for finishing my first book.

Hellboy had a DC script?  No wonder no one liked it.

I liked Shazam! but I'm waiting for cheap ticket Tuesday to see Hellboy.

No - I was speaking of Shazam!  I was underwhelmed. Didn't see Hellboy.

2019-04-14 01:53:52 PM
As far as Hellboy is concerned. It is unreasonable to expect me to pay for Ron Perlman cosplay.

2019-04-14 01:55:03 PM
Hellboy was pretty rough.  David Harbour was good, but came across as whiny most of the time.  There were some good action scenes, but the movie was just all over the place.  Stick the the GDT Hellboy movies.

Shazam was fantastic, with only minor gripes. For instance, he sure did act pretty dumb for someone with the wisdom of Solomon.

Don't.

I went to see it.  It's a terrible, terrible mess of set pieces.  Anything that covers the original movie suffers as a result of the immediate comparison. Anything that doesn't is about 95% unnecessary.

It's like it was edited by an insane person.

I'll add: David Harbour was fine but he's no Perlman.

And yeah, he did not come across as badass, but I'll blame that on the writing, directing and creature effects. HellBoy looks fat, hairy, sweaty and smelly.

Also there were no kittens. Even Captain Marcel had a cat-ish.

Its also at week 6, and still at just under 3 thousand screens. (down 598 screens from last week?)

If I was the distributor for MCU films I would be pushing to keep it in theatres for another 3 weeks; it might be in line for a spike of new viewers just after Avengers Endgame has its opening weekend.

Movie theatres are already adding more showing of Endgame and taking screens away from older movies, all these movies out there right now better make hay while the sun is shining because Thanos is coming for them.

What percentage of older film showings are being destroyed at the cost of Thanos?

50% of all additional 3D screens are being take by Thanos.

I've read all the Hellboy and BPRD graphic novels, so I was excited about the new film; got tickets to see it this past Friday.

Endgame will probably beat Star Wars. Presales have already been huge, so unless they totally whiff the ending so it doesn't have legs, I could see endgame even beating out Avatar.

I know what it's like to lose. To feel so desperately that you're a good movie, yet to fail nonetheless. It's frightening. Turns the legs to jelly. I ask you, to what end? Dread it. Run from it. Disney arrives all the same...

It'll make it. The Hunger Games took 80 days to reach $400 and Marvel is still trending ahead of that...but the gap is closing

Hellboy is a lame horse from the start.  Shazam is a totally new property to most folken.

In the comics he always hears the wisdom of Solomon but doesn't always have the maturity to listen.

In the movie the sins warn the BG that Shazam has yet to develop his full powers.

Too bad about Hellboy. I read the spoilers on the movies and it seemed like there was a lot of interesting content. On the other hand, I read an article which said there was a lot of rewrites, directions from the producers which contradicted the director, and Harbour even walked off the set a few times. Such a shame. The original Hellboy films was Deadpool before...er Deadpool.

Add me to the list of not caring for the Hellboy reboot.  Many, many problems with that movie.  Harbour was solid but he just isn't Ron Perlman.  Lame villain, lame plot, wasted Ian McShane as a crabby Bruttenholm, terrible CGI (Dear God that giant fight looked worse than the CGI in a used car lot commercial), uninteresting supporting characters, and worst of all, I thought it was just plain boring.

This Hellboy may have been closer to the comics but Del Toro's movies were leagues better.

sorry but the TV show was terrible as kid. no interest in the movie.
