I wonder if his $29,000 porn collection had anything to do with his divorce as well?

Seriously.  I'd divorce someone if they blew that much on Legos or Barbie's, but to spend that much on porn. .... Damned.

How hard is it to rent a storage unit, you pathetic wanker?  It can't have come as a surprise that your parents weren't all aboard the porn train, and you abused their charity when they let you move back in by storing your porn stash in their house.

$2000 a year for 15 years would produce a collection that size and wouldn't be unreasonable.

Actually I think his point is pretty valid. If I go to my vegan friend's house with a leather purse, does she get to throw it in the fire when my back is turned because "it's her house" and she doesn't approve? He says if his parents had said anything about not liking the collection he'd have made other arrangements.

You know, I wonder if maybe that's why it was such an expensive collection -- maybe it was vintage collectible porn. Maybe he was buying the stuff cheap and the value was increasing?

It would be understandable for someone to have a small porn collection consisting of a few "classic" films, magazines, and/or books because with some, like an illustrated copy of the Kama Sutra, the X-rated parts aren't the entire point.

A $29,000 personal porn collection? That's not healthy.

2019-04-14 05:06:44 AM
Seriously, though, we are talking what, 1000 DVDs (and VHS tapes, depending on how long he's been collecting)?
Dude.

Also, way to thank the people who caught you when you were falling.

I seriously doubt it was worth that. I think what he means is that he spent that on porn.

There's a market for vintage porn, but even old 1960s porn is only about $10 a magazine.

Not really. There's a big difference between your parents throwing out your trash that you stopped playing with, or which they reasonably thought was garbage, and deliberately throwing something out when you're an adult, you brought to their home and clearly stated they did "for your own good".

The parents aren't just in the wrong legally, but actually bad parents. When your kids are adults, you have to treat them as adults. You don't get to control your kids lives when they're adults. You can tell them the porn ain't coming into your house, you can tell them to take it out of the house, you can even tell the kid to get out if they don't take it out, but they're adults. You think porn is bad for them? Talk to them about it. Suggest they get some help.

If it consisted of well-preserved Playboys from the sixties, it could very well have been just a few dozen issues.

In any case, as easy a target as he may be, his parents openly admitted to willfully destroying his property, and that probably won't help them in court if he can prove his collection's worth.

Exactly.  As in... gtfo, or pay rent and follow the house rules.  I know you know the house rules because you lived here for 18 years.  Like I said before it's not that hard to get a storage unit.

That would set a bad precedent, yes, but this happened less than three years ago, not forty.

In any case, it was still a dick (heh) move by the parents.

Two of the four porn DVDs I have got their plot from "Pygmalion" (a George Bernard Shaw play). Both are parodies of "My Fair Lady" and very well produced considering what they are.

The other two have R-rated versions which don't include the explicit sex scenes.

I don't think I can really answer that question, for I cannot imagine myself voluntarily keeping company with sanctimonious vegans or prudish Christians. Neither group is any fun for both claim to better know what's good for you than you do.

What if it was 26000 dollars of rock albums? Rare books?

Property is property and his parents had no right to do what they did. I hope the judge looks past whatever puritanical bullshiat hangups people have about porn and does the right thing and makes them reimburse him for the value of his collection.

The Opening of Misty Beethoven?

I'd love to figure out why people spent so much money making porn back in the 70s and 80s. I think part of it was that the cast and crew historically came from failed actors and directors, but I think there might also have just been so much money kicking around that they could spend it.

Like that film isn't the biggest budget film ever made, but they clearly spent money on costumes, scenery, locations, extras and so forth.

Some married guys don't get it.  They can live out real porn scenes with a real partner.  Having real sex is far better than watching other people take it.  If it helps, ask the wife to fake it.  She might already do.

Back when I was a teenager, I went on holiday with my girlfriend, her brother and her father. When we returned we went back to her mother's house (parents were divorced) and sat talking about the holiday. Her mum, cool as a cucumber and without breaking stride in the conversation, turned to her brother and said: I've tidied your room, if your looking for your porn it's in a box under your bed. His face was an absolute picture, she carried on asking about the holiday.

Did you not read the article? C'mon, man, at least get to know that he was busy moving out with it and his parents decided to dumpster it on him rather than just dump it in his new place with a lecture. Like it or not, that was his property they willfully and openly destroyed. This isn't just a case of kids' toys being thrown out over the course of decades, this is actively malicious destruction of property that they agreed to move on his behalf.

There was also a ton of Mafia money laundering going on.  The mob for years was trying to get in on the action in Hollywood, and this was a viable option.
