Another meh for this week.

I blew through this when it streamed on Shudder. Don't waste your time. Most of the characters are written differently than in the book...the lead characters included. The director might have saved it by drawing more menace out of the vampires when needed, and telling the actress who played Diana to get a spine.

Love the books. How is the series so far?

Watched the whole series last year due to my wife being a huge fan of the books.

It does not get better.

Tried the first episode and couldn't finish it. <Zoidberg voice> For once, the crowd is with ME!

abhorrent1: Am I the only person on earth not watching Game of Thrones?

Nope. Neither Mrs Clam nor I have seen an episode.

/More into SciFy than fantasy.
//Also bailed after a couple minutes of the first Lord of the Rings movie.

It's kind of reminding me of one of those silly shows like Lucifer or that one where Nathan Fillion is some kind of crime fighting mystery writer only here the detectives are vampires trying to find a missing book.

My friend read the books too and keeps telling me this will get better, but she likes that kind of stuff, I don't.

I'll watch Matthew Goode in anything. His magnetism is off the charts, but I did not like this show which is strange because the occult is one of my favorite genres. I think my main gripe is with the lead actress who is Kristen Stewart levels of flat and stiff.

I've never been able to get into LOTR or the Harry Potter movies either. I've caught bit and pieces of them because they seems to be on BBC and TNT constantly. I don't mind fantasy but those are too long, there are too many of them and there's too much to keep track of.

We watched that fantastic beasts or whatever it's called a few weeks ago and I didn't care for that either. Not saying it was bad but it's just not my thing I guess. I haven't seen GOT simply because I don't have HBO otherwise I'd be willing to give it a try but...eh.

As a fan of Lucifer, Castle and other "procedural with a twist" type shows I can honestly say that isn't a fair comparison - This show is more of a "bodice-ripper-in-a-contemporary-setting".

Having not read the books I can't say how faithful it's being to them but unlike many book-to-screen efforts this didn't make me want to read the source material at all - it actually made me wonder why my wife, who generally has good taste in media, holds the books in such high regard. This whole series was just dull and predictable.

I just made that comparison because they showed her the lab where they're "investigating" their origins.

The other thing that's stupid is their complaining that vampires and witches are dying off. You're farking vampires. Just make more.

That does actually get explained - they can't. Or more accurately they try to do so but the "change" fails more and more often.

I can't believe I'm defending this show because it's not that good, but they did show and discuss vampires have lost their ability to sire in the first episode.

Ah okay. I kinda remember that now with that guy that tried to save his friend that got hit by a car.
Maybe I'm just not paying close enough attention because I find it boring. I'm trying to like it but if it doesn't get better, I don't think that's gonna happen.

I'll decide next Sunday if I'm gonna give it another chance. Based on what I've seen and what people in this thread have said, it's not looking good.

Lol. That's fair. I think the first "action scenes" happen in episode six so you may be waiting a while. 😁
