So, 75 crowded bars to avoid?

2019-04-12 10:48:17 AM
according to Yelp.

A list of bars beloved by suburbanites and tourists.

Chosen by Yelp.
The best bar is your second home. I have made amazing friends. And now that I'm old with kids and rarely go out, it's comforting to swing into the pub on a random night and have that community still there. Yeah, things change: there's a new regular crew and sometimes a new face behind the bar, but that sense of home is still there.

That was my thinking, only one mention of Chicago, no mention of Milwaukee or Memphis and California, Colorado and Florida all over the place fark this list

So, 75 businesses that are being extorted by Yelp.

It's amazing Yelp hasn't been sued out of existence.

Hmm... 75 is a lot. I wonder how many are in Madison.

(checks TFA)

None. And none in Milwaukee. And the only one in Chicago is a hipster bookstore that also serves beer.

You all may disregard this listicle. It is objectively terrible.

List should be titled "The three states where people use Yelp the most".

Shut this list DOWN!

No NOLA bars?

How long does my beard need to be in order for me to be permitted to enter any of those bars?

/I liked them all before they were cool.

Yup. Any bar can be a good bar (or, as you describe it, church basically) to the people who decided to make it their bar.

It may just be some crappy chain bar'n'grill, but for the retired regular who came in to grab a beer and ask the lunch shift bartender how his honeymoon went, it's home.*

*This actually happened the last time I went to Applebees for an office lunch.

What a great collection of fern bars..., sorry, "gastropubs". No, thanks. Give me a scuzzy dive bar with a good jukebox to aid in some quality day drinking.

some cool looking spots, Never heard of the place in Hells Kitchen but looks pretty cool.

Some of the distilleries etc with outdoor beer gardens sounded like fun

Never heard of the one that's listed in my city.

Yelp, for when your sense of self-importance can't be contained by Facebook alone.

This is the stupidest way to post a comment, if you don't want to mention where you are, that's fine just don't post. The "where I'm from' without a reference is just stupid

I bet a good 75% of the bars on the list are infested with elderly parrotheads on a drinking vacation, so fashionability shouldn't be anything to worry about

town talk isn't even the best bar on that street.  also, it's nothing even close to the little diner it was in 1948, has been bought & sold many times.  the only original thing is the sign.

I'm outraged that my favorite bar isn't on that list.

THIS! Not a single Milwaukee bar?

and, FWIW, subby was hopefully being sarcastic. These hipster brewpubs and whatnot are not "bars." Here are some bars (Milwaukee and Minneapolis)

These all look like places we use to take money from tourists, while the locals have more sense.

Noticed that as well. California is pretty high up there, too. Of all the bars across this nation, the list of 75 is mainly two states. *eyeroll*

I was happy to see my favorite bar - Wang Chung's - listed at number 63.  It's a very cool karaoke bar wtih a fun mix of gays, local straight couples and tourists.

If you're ever in Waikiki, check the place out.   You'll have a great time.
