I've seen various forms of chicken & waffles but never the one that came to mind when I first heard of them... a waffle cone with a couple of tenders in it, drizzled with syrup.

Wouldn't that be chicken in waffle?

You get to the heart of the debate of how you eat chicken and waffles.

There is, of course, the camp that says you alternate bites of chicken with bites of waffles, but there are
just as many exponents who say that you dress the waffles with your condiments of choice (butter and
syrup for me and most right thinking Americans), then tear up your chicken off the bone and spread it
on top of the waffle (hot sauce optional but highly recommended) then eat them together.  This is my
personal preferred method of ingestion.  I will admit that at first I thought of doing this did give me
some pause, since I am at heart a "FOOD MUST NOT TOUCH!" sort of guy, but I decided to take a
chance and am glad I did.  The combo of spicy fried chicken and sweet buttery waffles should not
work, but it totally does.  Not in a 'peanut butter and chocolate' kind of way (since both peanut butter and
chocolate are plant fat pastes made from ground up seeds), more like in a chocolate covered pretzel
kind of way with contrasting tastes and textures somehow meshing together..

I think what I'm saying is whoever does a proper wafflecone with fried chicken strips and maple sauce
for dipping will make a lot of money very quickly.

I've had it a couple of times where I really enjoyed it, but most of my chicken and waffles experiences have been a bit of a letdown

And what makes people think that a fast food joint will do it well?

It's like one of those foods like Biscuits and Gravy. Sounds good in theory, but when you order it at any chain place or some greasy spoon you're not familiar with it's typically a let down.

I'll go through the Dairy Queen drive through every once in a while for a Blizzard, but I haven't eaten actual food there since the 80s. Do people really eat there?

For me, Roscoe's will always be the yardstick against which all others are measured.

I'll check out the DQ version at my earliest opportunity.

Popeye's once went meta and had syrup-flavored waffle-crumb battered chicken. Only thing I ever bought from that chain I didn't finish, it was like the fried chicken equivalent of a wacky Dorito flavor.

If you're lucky enough to have a franchise near you operating under the old terms? Count yourself lucky, those burgers are killer.
