I was born in Dusseldorf and that is why they call me Angus.

Landed in Dusseldorf? Laddie, don't you think you should rephrase that?

/I gotta update my culture references. Dammit.

You know you're getting close to Dusseldorf when they ask you to return you clearplate to it's unshiat upon position.

I was red-lit with "BA flight bound for Dusseldorf lands in Edinburgh. The mistake was only noticed when they realised the ground crew spoke no English"

Ha. Yours is nicely understated! I was also toying with the quote "The toilets were blocked and they ran out of snacks" to add that there were, however, sufficient lemon-soaked paper napkins.

Why pay extra for BA if they are as shiate as some no name carrier from Koala Lumpur

Last time I flew into EDI, there was an enormous plume of smoke billowing from the terminal. We landed and disembarked as usual. Fire Brigade were on site but terminal evacuated. Walked right through, got my bags and hopped on the tram.

Prolly took them a while to figure it out, what with nobody speaking English there either.

Yeah, no need to pay extra. As it is, BA has some pretty decent fares. Use them frequently between the west coast and Euroland. Never had a complaint about BA or LHR.

There is an actual Brexit implication. Since Britain is still an EU member, each passenger regardless of nationality can file to receive 600 Euros in compensation for the screw-up per EU Flight Compensation Regulation 261/2004. After Brexit, there would be no compensation for this type of flight delay.

My daughter was on a BA flight from Paris to London that was cancelled. She filed a claim and received a check from the airline as compensation. It's a real thing.

Don't be silly. Düsseldorfers would never be caught in leather shorts or skirts.

The plane is question was a 737MIN3, though.

Unless the flight was at night or over completely cloudy skies, how come not a single passenger noticed they never flew over the North Sea?

When I fly I take a quick peek through the window once in a while and then back to the movie or book. "There, we reached the coast!. There, we are over island X/river Y. (or any other well known landmark)".

Since subby and another poster are talking about various headline possibilities, I may as well chime in that I considered submitting it with a 737MAX related headline, but according to flight tracking sites, it was an Embraer 170, and damn it, I believe there should be truth in Fark headlines.

/Nae really.

More importantly, why did the pilots fly to the wrong airport?  If I'm scheduled to fly to Aruba and my flight plan goes to Caracas, I'll be having a chat with the dispatcher.  Clearly the pilots were also wrong, but TFA didn't even speculate about it.
/ Unless TFA mentioned it at the end where I had already given up learning.

It was a morning flight (around 8am local).

I would certainly have noticed that the sun was off the left wing (flight was above cloud deck) right away and would have wondered what the hell was going on. I would likely have asked an attendant why we were flying north.

And then things would have gotten interesting.

I dunno - if I was on that flight I'd take it as a sign from the all-mighty FSM, and hit the town for a few days instead of flying out right away.

If by some miracle I also got myself a girlfriend, I'd be owning all the subsequent the "so, how did you guys meet?" dinner table discussions.

There was enough fuel to go to Edinburgh?
The map shows it much further.
I know you should have more fuel than you expect to use but
the tanks must have been nearly empty when landing.

Unless.....

Everyone EXCEPT the passengers knew it was going to Edinburgh.

My ride was made in Düsseldorf.  That explains the whiskey distillery under the hood.  At least that's why all the Freightliner mechanics are wearing kilts when it's in the shop.

The pilots were given written instructions to fly to Edinburgh. No errors on their part.

GPS is receive only. Nothing to do with flight mode.
