Probably the third-least California-y news involving California I've read about this week.

The phrase is "damn sight" not "damn slight".

Not to be confused with "dam site" which is the location of a barrier that holds back water.

Or a "dam cite," a reference to a horse's mother.

Or Darn Sight, which is the superpower of Crochetbro.

Growing up I knew a guy who had an old beater truck that he only drove at night. It had a ton of lights up on top and he would deliberately go drive in rural areas hoping to "accidentally" hit a deer. He would using get about 2 or 3 a year.

True story . . .In Oregon a few years ago, one college night school had a Home Ec. course in cooking road kill, how to "clean " it ( ? ), dress it and cook it. The notice said, " Bring your own road kill to class ".. Somehow, that just brought to mind those kind of students ( like me ) who would wait till the last minute to finish their home work and , . . .racing down the road to class would try to hit anything in the headlights.

Given the unofficial Law of Unintended Consequences, here is my prediction:

Once deer season is over we will have...
- An uptick in snowplow blades installed on trucks
- A surge in Ford F250 purchases

Don't be surprised if you see snowplows in the summer, kids! Buy stock in Ford now, while the gettin' is good!

Speaking of British beef, I had some Irish beef the other day. Delicious, if a bit salty.

Wait, that didn't come out right...

All I have to say is using roadkill is not a good idea in the 40C+ Australian summer so its a non-starter here unless you run over it yourself.

I always thought you could just call the state game commission or police if you hit a game animal and wanted to keep it. Must just be a Pennsyltucky thing.

Yeah, this. You probably wouldn't want to eat properly butchered beef that had lain in the dirt in summer temperatures exposed to flesh flies and the like for hours, either.

Also notable is the quote in TFA: "What we find is that animals that become roadkill have a higher prevalence of diseases,"

Well if you jump out in front of me and wreck my car,  it's only right I get revenge my eating you. Preferably your still beating heart in front of the rest of your family.

/but enough about pedestrians. What's this about deer?

Guess them vegan types have to veer off the asphalt into the corn fields for their roadkill.

that's been the law here in PA as far as I know.

/i've hit enough deer in my life
//yeah - i've thrown a few of those in the trunk, took them home, cut them up, and enjoyed eating them
///venison is great protein, and gives you the energy needed to replace your bumper
////the worst is when you smack one, mess up your car, and the damn thing gets up, gives you a dirty look, then runs away

I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong but I'm pretty sure they said the same thing up here in Ontario during my hunter's permit course.

Something along the lines of you only need tags if you plan on shooting it.

That's what's done in rural Missouri. Call the Sheriff and they fill out a form showing it was legally obtained. Sometimes they are taken to a local processor and donated to a a food pantry.

I say, Wellington old chap, damn tasty meal you laid on. Have you heard of the culinary invention the Earl of Sandwich has come up with?
Apparently you slice up some bread, butter one side of two slices, lay salad on one of them, beef on the other and press them together with the beef and salad as some kind of filling. No idea what he is going to call it mind you.

Once again, Tennessee leads the nation, by legalizing eating roadkill way back in 1999 they set an example now followed by a majority of states.

The guy who proposed the law as a state senator is now a congressman, maybe we'll get a national roadkill law now.
