Yup, it is the worst for that. I've wondered if they have it that sensitive on purpose so it jumps up pageviews. If it loads more ads does it earn whatever micro-credit for ad-serves?

He has to reasonably believe it to be necessary to keep kicking her. The age and size disparity, their relative positions, talking shiat during, nonchalant attitude after, no call to the cops, the absence of any apparent evidence of a knife... I'm betting he's gonna get f*cked. As he should.

It was an old ass lady sitting down. Even if she had a knife I highly doubt she could have moved quick enough to get to him before he dropped her anyways. Old people yell at stuff, a lot. Tell her to shut up if you want, yell back, whichever makes you feel better about yourself in the situation, but then move the fark on. Kicking an old lady while she's just sitting there?
He better plea this out to whatever the hell they offer, because a jury full of grandma loving, and she can do nothing to deserve being kicked in the face people, are going to hang your ass out to dry.

The one neat trick™ is to let the page load and then hit airplane mode.  The drawback is you won't win so many iPhones and Costco cards.  Sorry about that.

I noticed that too. Not one person tried to help her.
The fiancee also said that the woman got up and went towards them. If this is true, then why is she sitting in the corner away from the door.
I am curious to hear what the witnesses have to say.  Judging from the video they will probably say, "I didn't see nottun".

The law is not friendly to people to who intervene. No obligation unless it's your job, and if you do, you're liable for damn near anything negative that comes out of it. Even if the aggressor you're trying to stop is the one true person at fault, if he gets hurt by you, he or his family may well have the right to sue you, and the state may well place blame for anything going wrong on you. Immunity laws for samaritans are nice, but not everywhere has them.

That, and most people are themselves not looking to be on the receiving end of an asskicking of they don't have to be.

//your mileage may vary by state, but get to know that before you get involved

It goes to the old saying you'll be better to be drowning with one bystander than 100, because the 1 person will act, the 100 will look around for someone to act.

They do NOT protect you from being sued and facing legal fees, stress and lost work time.

Martial arts-wise and old lady aside, you don't want an assailant with a knife to be in an equal or  weaker position.
If the guy has a knife and stands up, you are on equal positions AND he has a knife.
If you keep backing up, in an enclosed space, you'll end up in a corner AND he has a knife.

Because nobody ever dies in small towns  <eyeroll>

Per-capita is the only honest way to compare violence, and some small towns have homicide rates orders of magnitude higher than Detroit, for instance.

If you really think a knife-wielding person seated right in front of you is a danger, I say you take the step back so he at least has to visibly move before you're bleeding out from your femoral artery.  (Also, the train doors were open, so not that enclosed a space.)
