What? I've been eating cottage cheese for breakfast for like 30 years. I love the stuff.

Cottage cheese is what you would get if polyurethane packing pellets magically turned into milk curds.

I have no use for cottage cheese.

Correction, it is one of the cheeses you can put in a lasagna if you use four or more cheeses.

But other than in a lasagna, eating cottage cheese is just sad.

Cottage cheese is good for one thing and, when I remember what that was, I'll post it.

You can use it as a substitute for ricotta in a lasagna.

Stir in a dash or two of soy sauce, some garlic powder and black pepper into a small container of snottage cheese. It makes a yummy breakfast or snack.

Large curd 4% cottage cheese it where it's at.

Love it for a summertime lunch with some vine-ripened sliced tomatoes. No vine-ripened tomatoes? Grape tomatoes are a great substitute and are available year-round. I like them in salads too.

Or plain with a canned peach half on top.

That small curd crap they sell here in LA is the worst.  I don't even see large curd on the shelves.  If I wanted large curd I'd have to find some artisinal large curd cottage cheese at Bristol Farms that costs ten dollars and is probably loaded with salmonella since it was made with raw milk in a barn.

WTF LA.  Your dairy practices are stupid.  First the stubbly shape of your butter.  Then the small curd cottage cheese.

In my broke days a tub of store-brand cottage cheese, the cheapest bulk of tomato I could get hold of, dried basil, and a squirt or two of cheap hot sauce was the healthiest thing I could afford. Compared to a stack of McDoubles, it was just as filling, just as cheap, and pretty tasty... For what it was.

Three heaping spoonfuls would drive away hunger for hours, kept in the fridge not quite to the creepy extent that McDoubles do, and costs less than a drive-thru meal.

That's it?

I was kinda expecting an anecdote about some obscure 18th century Frenchman and how a bon mot informed your disdain for cottage cheese.

Are you okay?

Just this weekend, I realized that my tastes have changed a bit as I've gotten older, and since a kid, I've had no use for cottage cheese. So, I spooned up a ramekin at work, just to see.

I still don't like cottage cheese, and since ricotta still exists, I have no use for it, save as a side dish to serve to others who either like it, or are foisting it off on their kids as an alternative to French fries...

Please. For the love of God if all you have is four cheeses and your rummaging around for a fifth, just scrape the crap out between your toes. Don't ruin a perfectly good lasagna with that crap.

There's only one use for cottage cheese, and that's to weigh down a trash bag.

I know.  I'm sorry.  First world problems.  I can totally understand you getting a little huffy at that; it's just me being spoiled, complaining about some silly little thing like cottage cheese when I have all this superior food you don't have.  I should be more appreciative of what I have and not sweat the small stuff.

I like cottage cheese, but just like every other milk product the quality is so damn low its hard to buy.

//all milk seems to come pre-spoiled now
///I'm not 100% sure what they're selling as butter actually is butter
///yogurt is plain straight up nasty.

I can find large curd in Portland, OR, but no full fat.  We eat it with cheap pot pies and, of course, in lasagna.  Which reminds me, I really need to make a pan, as shredded cheeses were on sale last week.

Cottage cheese sprinkled liberally with Johnny's salad and pasta elegance seasoning is delicious.

As the article points or, sometimes it can be hard to find real cottage cheese, not the "low fat" junk.  I wonder if that is what the haters have tried.

Use Doritos as a spoon for the cottage cheese.

Cottage cheese is good, especially with canned pear halves.

"Stop liking what I don't like" typing detected.

Cottage cheese is OK. Sometimes I put fruit on/in it, like pineapple or peaches. Or a pear.

YMMV, submitter, nobody's making you eat it, so ... lighten up, Francis.

There are many things worse than cottage cheese.

I can buy either one on the continental divide.  Also, cottage cheese is good.  When I was young, I'd add jelly but now it is fine plain.  Have to try some of the suggestions like soy sauce and black pepper.

Well there seems to be a large perceptual gulf regarding cottage cheese among my fellow Farkers.

I like cottage cheese, especially with home-made cinnamon apple sauce (we have a lot of old apple trees on our farm)

But I have to admit that sometimes when I get it, I never get around to eating it.

I live in a small-ish town (barely 10,000), but I've never had an issue with finding 4% large curd cottage cheese (don't care for small curd) at either Safeway or Walmart. Safeway always has it in their own brand (Lucerne) and Darigold too. Walmart always has their own brand and sometimes there will be a name brand too.

Good to know Cottage Grove has plenty of its namesake cheese. In a variety of sizes, too! ;P

I eat cottage cheese one way and one way only...with kettle cooked rippled potato chips...and it is like crack then. I can down the entire container eating half a bag of chips. The weird thing is, if I eat just the chips, I get serious heartburn, but using the chips to scoop up the cottage cheese and, presto, no heartburn.

I like cottage cheese eaten the following ways: with sliced banana, or with canned fruit, or with sliced carrot and a bit of ranch dressing.

Small plate of cottage cheese topped with canned pineapple chunks and seasoned with a little salt and pepper. Love it, but it's been a while. Going to buy some next grocery trip.

Salad with a bunch of other veggies added - top it off with cottage cheese instead of salad dressing - bam, lunch is served.

Or grab some ricotta, top some figs and drizzle honey over them. Far superior.

/I could really go for caprese right now...

Small curd with lots of black pepper or as my sister's mother used to serve it, on a lettuce leaf with either a pineapple ring or a slice of tomato with a blob of Miracle Whip (although I prefer Saffola mayo).

Cottage cheese topped with artichokes that have been marinated in oil. Yum.

This guy knows what's up. I grew up with ricotta and it was fine, but then I tried it fresh in Italy and I fell in love. I tried cottage cheese for the first and only time about 5 years ago. The texture was awful. I just wish ricotta was as healthy as cottage cheese is supposed to be.

I love, love, love pasta with onions, peppers, garlic, and Italian sausage, but have given up refined carbs.

I substitute cottage cheese for most of the pasta and it's still damn good.

Most of the whole wheat pastas I've tried aren't all that good.

Trader joes whole wheat is bearable. You have to go all ww. Dont give in and go back to white or youll never get used to whole wheat . If i cant get trader joes, barilla sells some multigrain blend that is ok.

I love some cottage cheese with peaches anytime. Summer when we have our heirloom tomatoes breakfast is an english muffin, each half gets buttered and toasted, a spoon of cottage cheese, a couple nice basil leaves, and a nice thick slice of black krim tomato, yum!
I live in the socal mountains, stater brothers market always has large curd available, saw it in there yesterday...
