Now I want a fully leather pair of Levi's. With a foie gras patch and real pearl rivets. And I want to go to that shareholder meeting and just stand right in front of the PETA activists. While eating beef jerky.

Sorry, that's a bit much. In reality, the board will call on the speaker, then after about 30 seconds, will cut them off to call the next speaker. They don't own enough to actually do anything with the company, other than be guilty of investing in a company that uses leather.

Are any dyes still made from ground up beetles or squid ink or something?

Holy shiat, if this is a tactic, Trump should take his company public.

They're just following the example of the right wing nuts who ruined the Hugo Awards. The world is being run by trolls now.

He's supposed to have divested himself 100%, with zero influence on its daily operations. If he hasn't, then that's an impeach able offense all by itself.

Who keeps giving PETA money?

2019-03-25 12:33:07 AM
If their complaint is the patch of leather for the hip label, I might agree with them. A nice synthetic might wear better, it isn't important that this bit be leather. But I refuse to support them, so now I want one of the pockets to be leather!

PETA: The Westboro Baptist Church of animal rights.

They don't want what's best for the animals, they want what's best for them.

"That means the animal-rights group will be able to get in front of decision-makers within the company to try and convince them to replace the branded cowhide patches on the back of their jeans with vegan leather plastic."

FTF the article writer.

/stop giving PETA publicity - the stunts are, like, 85% of their business model

How much is the minimum to speak at their shareholders meeting?  $9?  who cares??

Well it was 175 shares so $2975. Considering once the IPO is all said and done the total shares could be more than 40 million. Seems like a small percentage to be able to submit shareholder resolutions.

nice to know one's donation to PETA is being used to invest in a public company that has nothing to do with Animals.

Unless they purchased the B shares, this was just an emotional trade and those hardly ever work out.

The retail A shares have no real rights to decide the company's future.

I don't know, the animals that pick cotton in most of the world often (still) get treated like total shiat.  It'd be nice to see PETA's organisational clout get applied to that problem...

It seems to me that the mental sickness that infects PETA members is basically the same as the one that infects Trump supporters. Both are willing to accept behavior contrary to their own stated standards, as long as the people or organization promotes some part of their agenda. In PETA's case, it is an organization that kills animals by the tons. Both parties seem to revel in being assholes to everybody else... perhaps motivated by the desire to feel superior to others.

Their concern seems to be the leather patches on the back of the jeans, which are now only used on their higher-quality products.

Can't imagine that would be a large source of leather/cowhide demand worldwide.

I think the point isn't to make Levi stop, but making a big brand stops and hoping that others will follow. Then it would probably surprise you how much lower the leather consumption gets, given the amount of jeans sold each year.

/Now we just need something else to do with the hides
//Because I doubt a lot of cows are bred just for t leather

My GF bought a pleather jacket from thrift store the other day. Looks nice and still has original tags on it. One tag says "100% Vegan Leather".  I read it and said "So.. Plastic, in other words?"

All of the leather, beef, and other related industries out there that are the result from the death of a cow, and they go after jeans because of a small leather patch.

Not car or furniture manufacturers.  Not whole leather clothing or wallet makers.  No, they're going to go after a little patch on jeans.  Wow.

Narrator: But it isn't.

You're allowed to own shiat as president. He can't however use the office to make money and there is legitimate debate if that is happening with the Trump Hotel in DC.

Yep.  I'm sure a great deal of petroleum went into the creation of that jacket.

Ok, the KKK stunt was funny. Line breeding does fark up animals pretty badly over time. Race horses with weakening ankles, countless dogs and horse breeds with shortened lifespans, etc.

"Every little bit helps" is useless.  And worse yet, it's not true in this case.  Like talking about working on the national debt by cutting food stamps or losing weight by clipping your fingernails.  If you're attempting to meaningfully attack this "problem", your efforts are far more effective someplace else.  And in this case, they're walking their goal backwards with ridicule

That's why I made the jerk off motion comment. I agree that philosophy is useless and a waste of effort.
