Good, farkin' resort fees can be 50% of some hotels' nightly rates.  And paying for parking is a crime.

Resort fees and parking!! Two of the biggest reasons I don't go there anymore. Well that and I have a toddler now. But seriously though, the Las Vegas I knew in my early twenties through thirties is looong gone. Unless I want to go down to the Freemont Street "Experience"....

At which time you will be dodging homeless, street performers and beggars.

I don't stay on the strip in places that don't charge resort fees or parking. Then I take a cab to the strip to the casinos or Fremont. I haven't been in a few years, so I don't know if that's changed. Places like Vegas are great during a recession because they get desperate.

I've never cared about the parking (I can't think of many times in Vegas where I would have been sober enough to drive a car), but the resort fees are such a kick in the ass every damned time.

Last year I was in Vegas for a conference, I went downtown and found... parking fees. Also, they tore down the block that had mermaids (no deep fried oreos). It was more crowded, and I'd guess the hotels are still cheaper there, but "cheaper" than the strip is still more expensive than it used to be.

The only real cool thing was the zip lines.

I don't know what they are thinking with resort fees... except, perhaps, that there does seem to be a concerted effort to overprice Vegas for the middle class visitors.

Used to be you could snag a good deal for Vegas on airfare and a hotel from just about anywhere and have plenty of money left to eat, sight-see and gamble. Now you might as well go to Disneyworld -- it costs about the same. Even the local (Shreveport LA) casinos and roach-motels have unreasonable room rates. Fark you, I'll keep my money.

Yeah that's why I tried to emphasize the word word experience.

Grew up in Vegas.  As a teen I could walk the strip at night, eat some good food, window shop, go to the Adventure Dome, etc and be fine. It'd get crowded after a while but not terrible. I went on the strip again a few years ago and it was awful. FULL of street performers, people dressed as characters, and the occational street preacher blocking the sidewalks. The amount of people was nuts - you could barely walk. It's definitely changed and not for the better. Everything on the strip is more expensive than I remember and I remember it being expensive growing up.

I grew up in Vegas and spent 35 years there before moving away when the economy crashed. I miss the desert, but Vegas itself is pretty meh to me.

The perception of Sin City is what would lure the tourists years ago and now the people with money and time to travel are too old and tired to go.  The demographic has changed, and Vegas is behind the curve.

If a person under 50 has a lot of time off and money to burn, Vegas is not high on their list, but for aging Boomers, it is.  As long as they get their senior citizens discounts.

The Four Queens downtown does not have a resort fee, not do they charge guests for parking.  Plus, the have 10/7 Double Bonus video poker at both the quarter and dollar levels.

If you have a DD-214, you can get upgraded to the next tier level for both MLife and Total Rewards so you don't have to pay for parking on the Strip.

This is one of my largest complaints regarding online price comparison and reservations sites.  I have to burrow through several pages before seeing the final price with all of the taxes and fees added, which aren't exactly trivial amounts anymore.  After enough times, I start thinking "fark this".

That's the truth.

I was there last weekend, and thankfully we stayed downtown.

Side note:  Pub 365 at the Tuscany is awesome for anyone who LOVES beer.  I had to kill time at the casino bar before it opened, and Coors Light was only $3.  At the Wynn, it would have been over 8 bucks.

Yes, I'm weird....I like Coors Light as well as quality micro brews.

You need to come here next time you are in town.  Love the place, even won an expenses paid trip to Ballast Point Brewery from them.

Vegas just doesn't have the appeal it once had. You can party and have a good time just about anywhere now. The days of leaving the ol' lady at home while you snuck off to Vegas with the boys are gone. As are the company trips where jackholes got wasted and sexually harassed everyone with whom they came in contact.

Plus we've seen enough internet to know the "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" slogan was a B.S. scam, we ain't falling for that shiat.
