(AlterNet)   Hard Core Atheist sets out to prove Christianity false after Christian nurse saves his daughter's life, instead becomes born again Christian. Puzzling part is why was he a pastor at a megachurch if he was a Hard Core Atheist   (alternet.org) divider line

Do you have any idea how hard it is to come up with an original grift nowadays? All the easy "oooh, I saw the light" stories have been overdone.

Ha ha haaa that's hilarious.

I had a crazy religious girlfriend in college (some sect of Baptist) who kept trying to convert me (atheist), and one of her tactics was to have her mother ask me to read this book. Even as a 19/20ish-year-old, I flagged the author as full of shiat--silly leaps of logic, getting basic historical facts wrong, getting basic anti-theist arguments wrong.

I worked out that he was full of shiat, but I had no idea he was this full of shiat.

TL:DR - too many Christians still love and believe everything written in Chick Tracts.

Well, god and jebus have done such a great job of convincing the masses of their existence and all the good they do...

Just why do they get off on watching kids get raped?

I think if you believe in god that you could never be a pastor in a mega church.

I had a good idea it was Lee Strobel from the headline alone.

The skeptical stance is merely a literary device, because he fails to ask the questions or consult the experts who could show him wrong.

I think the headline is a bit off, as I think he was a lapsed Lutheran when he went all in on the ex-atheist gimmick ... and then he became the mega church guy.

Also, there's a market for taking advantage of people of faith who need a response to their crumbling worlds of religion.  He's profited from it.  The question is whether or not he believes everything he's written.  Therein lies the answer to how evil he is.

I used to be the biggest vegan ever. I walked around in birkenstocks made out of tofu and I would go into restaurants and get in people's faces about all the meat they were eating. I would call them baby-killers and try to make them eat tempeh and they would say "What is tempeh?"  and I would say "It's great" and then I would eat it in front of them and try to pretend I liked it.

One time I was at a Taco Bell harassing people and spreading kale farts everywhere when this bold and rugged Marine came in.  He ordered a Big Bell Beefer Burrito and was eating it.  It looked so good in his strong, masculine grip that I just had to have some.  I ate the burrito and then I started kissing it and then everyone started clapping and they didn't stop until we were married.  I dyed my hair blonde and bore him 10 sons and I feed them ground beef for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

Please send money to help me spread the word and save your children from vegans!

I only hope that my faith in Lee Strobel's miraculous journey to Christianity can overcome the facts that completely refute his claims.

Feeling down?  Had a tragic event happen recently in your life?  This month I'm offering thoughts and prayers for the low low price of $5,000 but you have to act fast, this unbelievable price will only be available until the end of the month.

Trust me, I'm a professional God person.

fta: "All scripture is fanfic."

I think this is the most succinct description of most religions there can be. When you look at it in this context, it makes many folks apt to be devoted to fanfic no matter how crappy its written because it is at least different material involving a favorite character to fantasize and fangirl over...

None of the pastors or administrators at megachurches believe in God. They believe you believe in God and will take your money for providing a grand ol time for a couple hours on Sunday and maybe Wednesday.

Nothing in the Bible commands us to refrain from having sex with minors, or watching people have sex with minors.

Then you're missing out on a ton of good philosophy. If you're looking for Christian religious text outside the Bible, I'd start with the Confessions of St. Augustine.
