I'm surprised they lasted this long. Family Christian closed all their stores a couple of years ago, and they were a larger chain.

I'm Presbyterian and I never shopped either one. When I wanted a hard copy NIV Bible, I got it at Barnes and Noble. Now I mostly use apps on my phone.

"The outlet says it will continue to offer products and services at its website and through a customer service call center."

Well, if there is one business type that still might do robust business from orders through call centers, it's probably Christian booksellers.

I don't know, when they hear that foreign accent on the other end of the line...

given all the abuse and cover ups regarding said abuse, its not any sort of shock or surprise that people are (finally!) starting to turn away from christianity.  I very much hope this trend continues.  I don't even care where people go, or what gods they worship or don't worship.  just stop giving these abusive cults money and/or political influence.

Man, that would have been sweet--I had to finance mine, and ended up getting repossessed.

Geeze. I can't imagine why a bookstore catering to ONE type of fiction would go under when bookstores selling all kinds of books are going under.

They tried to stock a bunch of shiat nobody wanted. Instead of filling a niche, they can now convert to more on demand and digital deliveries. I say this as a used book dealer.

Business is rough for them without any new video games from Wisdom Tree to sell.

I actually have Super 3-D Noah's Ark in my Steam library for some reason. It must have come in a bundle somewhere. I certainly didn't buy it on its own.

can you equip it with weapons and sail the seas as a cursed ship run by a religious fanatic and his freaky family of inbred farmers?

I've seen many Christian bookstores, but that leaves me with a question.  Do other faiths have bookstores?  I understand if, inside your worship locale, you might find a display of materials, but I mean a stand alone place, like Family Christian or Lifeway.

cherryl taggart: Do other faiths have bookstores?

yes, but book stores for non christian faiths have to walk a fine line between getting the word out about their existence with being TOO visible and getting attacked by the christians for existing.

No but for 1/2 price Joe's best friend can come over and miraculously impregnate you teenage daughter.

I blame the Gideons.  How can you make any profits when those guys are giving that shiat out for free?  They're like the Google of Christianity.

Have you ever walked into one of these stores?

Yeah, they have their bible and supporting materials section, the rest of the books are full of BS like 'I kissed dating goodbye' and dispensationalist/end of times jerk off material.

The other 60% of the store is full of kitchy Jesusy crap that white suburban women decorate their houses with, and Hobby Lobby carries the same stuff at a lower cost.

2019-03-21 05:10:35 PM
Maybe they could boost sales through a bible signing deal with Trump.

I was going to bring them up... are there even any national chain "Christian Book stores" now?  Sheesh, actual just "book stores" can barely make it in B&M format, I can't imagine some niche version of a book store being able to stick around.
