Gump is ten million times smarter than Trump, and Gump even knows he is not a smart man.

Besides, the last we knew, Gump would be an actual billionaire with his "fruit company" investment.  Unlike Trump.

I read Gump & Company, and I'm pretty sure the author specifically wrote that book so that it would be very difficult to turn into a movie.

I mean with CGI being the way it is, you could probably have Forrest Gump meet Tom Hanks like in the book, but at that point the movie would be seen as more of a parody.

Thing is though..  Jenny actually died of Hepatitis..

But that doesnt matter because at that point we need to deal with Forrest, and his kid all living with AIDS if it is to be assumed that that she had contracted the disease before she "came home"

"I had him in the back of O.J.'s Bronco," Roth said of the infamous 1994 car chase involving O.J. Simpson. "He would look up occasionally, but they didn't see him in the rearview mirror, and then he'd pop down."

3,000 lives is a horrible price to pay to stop that... but it'd be worth a couple.

Somewhere in that sequel they should have had him hand a letter to someone involved with starting AOL and Gump says "You've got mail". Then in another scene he's eating with his son in a fast food place and looks forlornly at the inadequate hamburger and says "Where's the beef?" not knowing that in the next table some advertising guy is sitting there dumbfounded. Then in another scene he's in a crowd that is agitated and, scared for his son's safety, he says "Can't we all just get along?" and it turns out Rodney King is in that same crowd.

Did the writers have some sort of acrimonious relationship with the people they sent their script to or some sort of contractual obligation they wanted out of? That description sounds more like they wrote it as an FU, just try and make a movie out of this type of deal than a serious script.

And then a girl walks by and trips and brushes her head against his pants as she falls and he says "eat my shorts" and it turns out it is Matt Groening's sister l, and then he's going for a long hike and he tells his ill son that he wishes he could "listen to music while I walk, man" and the inventor of a music-playing device is there, and then his son dies and he freaks out and his MH/MR case worker tells him to "Take a chill pill" and the case worker invents and prescribes him Prozac, and then he goes on vacation to a video game conference and when he's leaving he tells this dude that "I have to go pack, man" and then....

This is exhausting.

Sorry, Forrest was a likable slow witted man with an interesting life. I realize that all the cool kids have been told that it is hip to bash the movie, but it was a good movie and a fun story. Equating Donald Trump to Forrest Gump is insulting every single person who had even the smallest part in putting that movie together.

it's that he was a tunnel rat in Vietnam.

Yeah, the timing doesn't work for the kid to have AIDS. Best I remember, Jenny banged Forest in the late 70s, so I agree with the hepatitis comment. I remember "kids with AIDS in school" being a thing more around 1990.

Yeah, given the timeframe in the movie, she would've been an extremely early case of AIDS.

It would also assume she wasn't infected when she farked Forrest in '76, but was infected sometime in the next nine months.

However, the Ryan White deal happened in '84 or '85, so the timing would be spot on for a 10-ish year old Junior to be an early kid with AIDS in school.

Not necessarily, as the lifespan of anybody diagnosed with HIV/AIDS was not that long at that time, so Little Forest wouldn't have even made it to the end of the movie.  Plus with Ryan White, his infection was due to an injection.

We had a funny sequence where they were [desegregation] busing in Florida at the same time, so people were angry about either the busing, or [their] kids having to go to school with the kid who had AIDS. So there was a big conflict."

Sounds hilarious.

Ryan White got infected by a blood transfusion at age 13 in 1984.

The first recorded instance of a baby being infected period was 1980, that by blood transfusion (not known at the time). First recorded instance of infection via maternal-fetal blood transfer wasn't until 1982 by Dr. Oleske. That child died right around the time Ryan White received the fateful transfusion.

HIV/AIDS was fatal relatively quickly for the very young all the way up until the 1990s. Saquinavir and HAART wasn't a thing until 1995. We didn't start seeing children infected at birth or infancy living into their teens until Bush and Kerry were squaring off.

Gump & Co.was a TERRIBLE book. The first book wasn't bad, waaaay different from the movie tho. But the sequel was kinda batsh*t, bit not in the good way. It's like Winston Groom saw the movie, and decided to one-up the whole damn thing, including (but not limited to) Forrest being the reason the Exxon Valdez crashed.

Keeping in sync with the timeline of the film, we will assume Forrest Gump took part in the round of financing and bought a $100,000 stake, which is good for 3 percent of the entire company.

Apple's stock began trading for the first time on a public market on December 12, 1980. Apple's launch consisted of selling 4.6 million shares at $22 per share.... Assuming Gump didn't sell any shares over the years and he collected cash dividends rather than re-investing, his stake would be worth 3 percent of Tuesday (January 24, 2017)'s market capitalization of $631.20 billion -- $18.9 billion.

Apparently the author got really screwed by Hollywood math.   It's extremely likely he wrote the book as a giant middle finger to anyone who wanted to film it.

So was the book. Groom was definitely screwed over by Hollywood accounting and absolutely refused to even negotiate with them over the rights to film the second book.
