So more players can die from heat stroke?

The low-tier teams that get into the World Cup already are barely-capable as is. I'm sure many people will be itching to watch Dominican Republic vs Mozambique.

Yeah, that's f*cking stupid.

FTFA: expanding the tournament to 48 teams was feasible, provided that neighbouring countries hosted some matches (with Qatar as the main host country).

Now how is Qatar going to square that with this blockade problem?  Sportball just got interesting to me.

I see we're still all going to pretend all of the corruption never happened then.

This match will determine once and for all which nation is the greatest on earth - Mexico or Portugal!

I assume Mozambique made it in over the US in a qualifier. Wait...we ARE talking men, right?

To be fair, after actually RTFA, AND the PDF of the feasibility study to do this - it kinda makes sense.

From what I understand, the next World Cup after this one will have 48 teams, and they just wanted to bump it up for this one for an extra quarter billion dollars or so.

Plus, it would get rid of those pesky 'half' spots for some regions.  What's weird is EVERY South American team will get in once they expand to 48.

And there will be 16 three team groups to decide which two of the three advance.  At that stage, they might as well expand to 64 teams and have a straight knockout tournament.

But even with a 32 team knockout round, can you imagine the bracket pools for that?!?

FIFA can't risk missing out on that sweet American and Italian money.

But a three team round-robin is ridiculous.  There's going to be like 8 groups with ties, 3 groups they settle with coin tosses, and it wouldn't surprise me if there were a group with all three teams in dead tie down to yellow cards.

And yes, I know I just confused FIFA with the NFL

Question, with the split bid do all 3 countries (US, Canada, Mexico) get guarantied spots or is it just the US as it has the vast majority of matches?

That ruins the most exciting and challenging confederation qualifying tourney. Bleh!

International football sucks, just like every other all star team competition. The quality of play, officiating and broadcasting are all garbage. Conmebol qualifying is the only watchable part of the entire tournament. The rest pretty much boils down to drinking with non soccer fans in bars and barely paying attention to the matches.

So you're saying it's pretty much perfect the way it is?
