Now there's a car that deserves to be submerged in one of Houston's 500 year floods we're getting every two or three years.

I'm hard-pressed to think of any other mid-engine production car that GM has put out besides the Fiero.  The new mid-engine Corvette will be another kettle of fish altogether and new territory for them.  I'd expect there's going to be some tweaking and the first model year will probably be a good one to miss.

Advertise it as capable of Warp Speed.

Boom. Done.

GM will fark this up for sure.  Ford did it right with the GT but I doubt Chevy will have the same success.

I can warp a civic by dropping in a 305 but that doesn't make it useful in any way.

...GM was seriously talking about a mid-engine Vette 40 years ago, but pulled the plug because they weren't convinced they could economically build the damned thing.  BONUS:  the Aerovette project was headed by one J.Z. DeLorean, and looks surprisingly like another car he developed....

No wonder the engineering doesn't work. They're making the wrong car.

They're competing with Chrysler. It's the horsepower war all over again 50 years later.

I'm pretty sure it ran on petrol rather than cocaine. But, given how shiatty it supposedly was, maybe the coke was the better plan

Pretty sure cocaine was involved in the decision to put the factory in Belfast.

No, it made perfect sense if the plan was to con a government agency out of serious coin. The English were desperate to give the Ulstermen something to do besides building homemade bombs and rockets.

Artificial scarcity, telling people that they had to apply to own one, and trying to enforce a no-resell policy isnt ever "doing it right".  Frankly its the sort of thing that should put a company out of business.

We have a guy in town who has a trailer hitch on his corvette.  He tows his boat with it.  He's also got a flat bed trailer he uses for lawn equipment and such.  In the winter he tows his motorcycle down to the bay to go racing on the ice.

...Technically there was a prototype- it was a rebuilt version of another never-was.  It did run, and apparently had reasonable performance.

I like sports cars, but the current trend of 500+ hp sports cars is absurd. Race cars don't have that much power in most cases, nowadays most race cars are restricted in one way or other to keep it sane, safer and fair.

I had an 85 fiero with the v6.  it was a lot of fun and a cornering machine.  not 'fast' to be sure, my girlfriends crx si passed me on the highway when I was wide open like she wasn't even trying.

and it had 'personality' as in you had to figure out how to get around the gremlins of making the car run okay.

It certainly has the torque.  Presumably since his frame can take the abuse, warping a C8 (or whatever you call the new vette) was a bit of a surprise to the engineers.  Do the math, guys.

Probably a C-4. They have an almost truck like frame and could take abuse like that. They also have the most gutless small block GM ever produced.

Even truck frames have their limits.  I know a guy who dropped a 383 small block V8 into his Chevy S-10 who eventually started having twisting issues due to all of the torque.  It was one of the reasons why I stuck with a 350 for my S-10 conversion.

Why not both?

For some years the Corvette was positioned as a grand tourer, and now you can still get that in base models. But they also sell track-devouring models that will run with Ferraris for 1/2 the price or less. My understanding is that GM is considering the mid-engine model as the C8 supercar and they might continue production with an updated (call it C7.5) model as a cheaper, base model for people who still want a GT.

The Ford GT is priced at a half million dollars, you can pickup a Vette at your local Chevy dealer. Apples and Oranges. Except the the upper middle class could actually buy the Vette.
