"SPLC President Richard Cohen said in a statement Dees' dismissal over his misconduct was effective on Wednesday, March 13. When pressed for details on what led to the termination, the organization declined to elaborate."

He bribed a Harvard official to enroll his "massage therapist" from a Palm Beach rub and tug shop.

Firing an 82-year-old co-founder that hadn't stepped foot into court in 10 years and not even giving him the chance to retire Instead?

This will definitely have a follow up thread.

Considering they are bringing in outside investigators and talking about making sure all employees feel they are heard, it sounds like it has to do with him being a bad boy in some fashion (spitballing getting grab-assy or saying unkind things about someone's ethnicity).  For an organization with their mission statement, sweeping something like that (if it is something like that and true) under the rug would be muy malo.  They are going to be flayed for letting it happen at all; if they are found to have given him a golden parachute, they can just go ahead and shutter the place.

There is also the possibility this was to quell worse than private outside investigators, ie calling in the law.  "Person X, because of Bad Thing, is there anything we can do to resolve this without the courts getting involved?" "You fire Dees and there is a house-cleaning" "Done."

Sorry, the SPLC is 8s the only organization of its type that I know of that has off shore accounts in the Caymans.  Something weird going on there!

Suspiciously Probably Likely Cocaine.

The SPLC became the PETA of the civil rights movement years ago. Here's to hoping for their swift decline.

10 years ago is about when SLPC became more assertive in both their media presence and their fundraising.  Close enough to wonder if there's a connection.

Agree. They're clearly getting ahead of an unpleasant story that's about to break.

My WAG?  Financial shenanigans recently, uncovered during an internal audit, triggered by a payment to settle a harassment suit.  The article mentions allegations going back decades, which makes me wonder if the reason he hasn't been active in litigation for years has something to do with being made to stop.

Yep.

Especially bringing in outside people to investigate.  You don't do that unless you think your dirty laundry is going to aired.

i have a feeling you are going to find out your hero is a dirtbag.

You shouldn't have heroes, because pretty much no one is worthy of the title.  What with them being actual human beings and all.

Awwww, have you been disappointed? By one or more human beings?  News flash, we're all flawed hypocrites, every one. Fortunately there is no cosmic balance and the good we do has it's effects independent of the effects of whatever mistakes we make.  A brand can always be taken out back and abandoned.

Precisely my point.  So thanks for reiterating it, I guess?  I mean, you felt compelled to agree with me, hard, so I guess you deserve this:

BTW, it might not just be sexual harassment allegations, there is also a possible allegation of racial bias in promotions involved which would be deliciously ironic if true.
