pueblonative: How bout yous?

perfectly cromulent

2019-03-14 07:13:43 PM
The word is "y'all," as in "you all," and the apostrophe always goes after the y. If you ask me, putting it anywhere else should negate one's right to use it.

Goddamn right.

When an article spells it as "ya'll", then it's safe to ignore it

Just say folks.  It's easy.

2019-03-14 09:12:40 PM
Y'all is a terrific contraction because it's non gender specific.

2019-03-14 09:12:41 PM
yeah, if you can't spell the "word" you're saying, you can't expect people to read the article.

Youse guys is correct. It's not a contraction.
y'all is correct. It's a contraction of "you alll", with "you" shortened.

2019-03-14 09:16:15 PM
hey you guys

Y'all.

2019-03-14 09:16:47 PM
groovy

2019-03-14 09:17:03 PM
I say "folks" when I'm talking to strangers, "guys" when I'm talking to people that I know, and sometimes "y'all" when I'm talking to buds.

No, I'm not sure why. Just realized that.

2019-03-14 09:17:37 PM
Hey you people, how is it going?

2019-03-14 09:19:01 PM
If I'm not mistaken, "y'all" is second person singular, and "all y'all" is second person plural.

If we're gonna get technical, that is.

2019-03-14 09:19:31 PM
So I guess my tendency to refer to a group of people as "my biatches" would not endear me to the UW faculty.

2019-03-14 09:20:07 PM
People in Washington don't say y'all.

2019-03-14 09:21:49 PM
Never understood the issue with "Guys" as not being inclusive.

The etymology of the word "Guy" is "leader", not "man".

Do people seem to think women/girls can't be leaders? Seems odd to me that anyone would question it.

You know somebody is pissed off when "all y'all" makes an appearance.

Well, we know it.

Youse guys might not.

I use, "Hey, Assholes!" Perfectly gender-neutral.

They do in Tacoma.

Y'all is my preferred pronoun.

Now, if you're polite, you say something like "howzyamommaandem?"

"My friends..."

Remember 2008? How many times did McCain say "my friends", my friends? My friends, I don't have an exact tally, my friends, but...

/And so on and so forth

To be fair, the proper use when addressing an entire group is, "All Y'all".

I say we just use "dahlinks."

2019-03-14 09:27:54 PM
I first began hearing "you guys" directed at women in 1979, in dance classes that typically had about three men and twenty or so women.  The people saying "you guys" were women.

2019-03-14 09:28:12 PM
I taught inner city youth that were brought into a rural setting in the 70s. Young ladies. Pre-and-post pubescent.
I used guys, and they were taken aback.
I explained Y'all was what they had been using.
Further, it was supposedly their eubonic code, but sadly, it was the Massa what coined it. It got adopted when their ancestors learned to "talk white" so they dropped it.
It was not preferred by them after that.
They took that lesson home.
Also, guys, is a homophone for guise. And they were coming together in a group with a preconceived ice of how they should act, behave, and talk. By explaining each of them were free radicals, capable of choice, they could each step out if their guise and become whomever they wished.

"Sure, it's easy to be a mom.
Anyone can do that.
But try being a role model for 30 young ladies at once, any of you guise think you could do that?
Well, here sits a male, doing that.
And I had no idea I would be doing this three months ago.

Imagine where your lives can take you if you throw off everyone else's expectations of who you should be.

Imagine who you want to be.

Now, who brought knives? This is knife safety class."

At which point the sounds of 11-15 year old girls snapping open switchblade fills the air outside of a painted tee pee in the hills o.o

I'll read the upline...but a couple ears back I accepted 'dude' as a gender-neutral address for "Person I don't know- but you probably deserve respect".

And rich folks were giving 6-figure bribes to get their kids near this stupid shiat?
