It should be easy for them, a snap, even.

You think having Theranos on your resume is a problem?  Wait a few years from now, and try to get a job with "Trump Administration" on your resume.

"Fired from that administration" actually may be a selling point in some cases.

Pardoned by that guy? Well, maybe not then.

Hey subby. We went through all the millions of ways Theranos could be taken down. This was the only way it was possible.

I can sympathize with the secretaries, finance, and HR drones that got whacked by this.  But I have no sympathy for anyone in their engineering/R&D teams.   It would take all of about a week to come up with a "Well this is bullshiat" conclusion about what the company was supposed to do vs what the company actually did.

The grandson of George Shultz (former Sec of Defense & State) went to work for them and called up his grandfather and told him it was all a scam.  Shultz called the lawyers and pressured him to shut up.

While in college I worked for several years at a medical lab, being a blood specimen courier and lab specimen processor.
In order to get statistically viable test results, a minimum amount of testing reagent must be used, which means a minimum amount of blood must be used. The more tests you run on a sample, the more sample blood you need.

Anybody with any sort of medical lab experience would have scoffed at the claim of performing multiple tests from one DROP of blood.
Total baloney, impossible.

Agree about The Dropout. Based on that it sounds like Steve Jobs may have invented the Reality Distortion Field, but Elizabeth Holmes perfected it and turned it loose on the world.

Not entirely true. With tandem mass spectrometry you aren't using reagents and can do a whole lot of testing with very little blood. Newborn screens are an example as they are literally just a couple drops of dried blood on a card. You can pretty much measure any molecule with mass spect so for any lab test other than a blood count and electrolytes it would be viable though not necessarily the most efficient way to do it.

Except she really was community theater level. Theranos is all about the murky Oligarchy world of Venture Capital. It's a hint of much bigger shiatstorms.

Yeah, that might be the one guy I'd hire.  Of course, I'd hire him to be creative about the plot of a video game or thinking up ways to market couches to millennials or something, not a life-changing device.

In listening to the podcast about this, it's amazing how many were complicit in this, willing to do horrible things in the name of this con. It just depresses me that so many of my species are so willing to go along with shiattiness as long as they get their cut.

Anybody that prepared either won't be hired or won't take the job (and can probably find safer and more profitable grifting opportunities elsewhere).

Local lawyers available for retainers are probably included in the HR packet new hires get (and probably coming from GS-types not under Trump's control).  By now I expect the wording to be eerily similar to a Miranda warning.

Holmes took full advantage of the fact that the venture capitalists in Silicon Valley decide who they will invest in based on the notion of "disruption", not on whether or not the product actually works.  And had this worked the way that Holmes had said it did, it would definitely have disrupted the hell out of the medical tests industry.  Of course, as you said, it would never have worked.  But, hey, a chance to be in on the next "disruptor"!

Holmes peddled a fantasy that nevertheless became taken as fact until, finally, a reporter started checking into it. The number of supposedly intelligent and shrewd people who bought in is indicative of her ability to mesmerize those who should have been difficult to sucker. They really wanted to believe.
