DOES ANYONE IN THIS CHAMBER HAVE ANY BLOODY IDEA WHAT THEY'RE DOING?!?"

Why do they need more time? I thought, based on the musings of some here, that this was great and everything was going to plan.

best for everyone. No good decision is made under that sort of deadline. Hopefully gives enough time for May's government to fall and for people to make the right choice to simply stop this madness.

what are they going to tell the eu?  the dog ate my homework?  my grandma died?

You have three options, UK: take May's bad deal, leave with no deal, or decide not to leave. The EU has no incentive to give you better options.

2019-03-14 02:58:48 PM
Well, in three years they managed to agree upon nothing, so I'm sure that another three months should at least let them double that.

Farking spineless dicks.

Declare Brexit null and void, and don't ever put this shiat on the ballot again.

That's what you do. If it costs you your political career, too farking bad.

The EU has already said they can revoke Article 50. So if nothing else, they could do that and then re-file the next day to start another two year clock.

I sure hope so! Let the Leavers take the whole nation down. It will be a lesson to the rest of us that Americans will forget by next morning as they watch Fox & Friends. Selfishness masquerading as populism is our glorious leader. It has been forever. It's just out of the shadows now as the Conspiracy no longer fears retribution. England leaving the EU is the Conspiracy plan; may they suffer the fate of all who acquiesce to selfish racist fear-addled idiocy.

"We reject the only plan on which you've agreed, with no alternate in the wings. We reject leaving without a plan. We would like an extension."

You know the EU's just going to say, "How about 'no', you crazy friggin' Brit bastards!"

The EU's made it pretty clear that the agreement in hand is the only one they're considering, that a new plan wouldn't be received well if at all, and that the only way an extension would be granted is if a second referendum or general election had taken place.

So, I don't think the UK's left the EU with any option other than to reiterate that they still have just three choices - leave with the existing agreement, leave without the existing agreement, or don't leave - and that they have two weeks to decide. If they can't get to one of those three options in two weeks, they're going to leave without the existing agreement.

Why does this seem so goddamned straightforward to everyone other than the May government?

2019-03-14 03:03:55 PM
so either they force enough no-dealers to vote for may's deal or they delay brexit in perpetuity?

everyone knows what they are against, but no one knows what they are for (and viable)

Three months? They're got five days, or else they have to participate in EU elections.

2019-03-14 03:04:06 PM
It's tough to tell why the EU would continue to entertain this folly.

Exactly. There's apparently a shared delusion amongst Parliament that there are, somehow, other options. It baffles the hell out of me, as I assume that these are, if not educated, at least literate adults with a modicum of operating executive function.

Hasn't the EU already said that they'd only consider an extension if it was for a minimum of two years? I think I read that somewhere. Why are these aholes voting on a 3-month extension when that has already been rejected? It's like every other vote these stupid Brits take is to agree that they want something that is not really an option. Why should the EU allow these idiots to start doing a bunch of little extensions that just stretch out a period of economic uncertainty within their trading bloc?

If it were just the House of Lords, I'd disagree, but I thought you'd have to at least fill out a form or two to run for Commons.

American here so I apologize that I'm uninformed.

What's best case scenario here (assuming Brexit actually happens and there isn't another vote to reverse the referendum)?

2019-03-14 03:07:38 PM
Article 50 should be irrevocable and with a deadline that cannot be extended. There needs to be hard consequences to motivate people.

Golly, if they'd just have another referendum, they wouldn't need to come up with a plan they don't even have a start for, after two years.

London will be in for a friggin' shock if they go through with Brexit and Scotland immediately splits off and joins back up.

Of course. No matter what side they are on, everyone thinks their position is the best. Remain, leave, hard leave, etc. They all think they are correct.

The people didn't have any farking clue what they were doing or what the consequences would be, and were being lied to the whole time about it.  The PM had no business putting something like that up to a vote in the first place.  At the very least it needs another referendum, but simply revoking Article 50 is totally justified.  They won't do it but that's because they're cowards, not because it's wrong.

Psychohazard: It's tough to tell why the EU would continue to entertain this folly.

It's not a one way street.  The UK is still going to be a major trading partner and no deal brexit will cause some amount of havoc on EU states amd companies exporting to the UK.

Although frankly I think the EU should just tell the Brits to get stuffed on extending the deadline.

The people were conned and there is more evidence than I care to list to prove that fact. When the people are fooled into doing something stupid by a foreign power can it really be considered a choice of the people or that of the corrupting power? Brexit should be NULL and VOID due to the Russian interference. The vote was corrupted and tainted, much like ours in the USA in 2016. Results should be tossed.

/ As ours should be too but HAHAHA the USA is home of evil rich white old men running the shop.
