The trains in the article appear to be big boxy squares, possibly stacked two high.  I suspect your passenger train is a bit more aerodynamic.

No, it's a road.  That's why they're called "rail roads."

Are we training a generation of engineers who can design trains that don't fly? I hope so.

Looks like they were empties.  Not even a good wreck-loot to come of it.

It's almost as if the planet's climate was getting more extreme over time.

Neanderthals had trains that flew. Around 5000 years ago if I'm ready my Book of Jesus properly.

I'm now picturing a communities of wreckers, living by the tracks with a fake lighthouse.

Empty shipping containers, meaning a lot of surface area and not much weight behind it.  And the train was crossing a bridge, getting the full force of the wind.  This was pretty much set up for a wreck.

And the bridge was nothing to brag about either. Accident waiting to happen.

I was driving through the Salt Lake area once when the winds hit 70 mph, and they grounded all the trucks. They were just pulled over on the side of the interstate in a line. It looked weird, like one of those end of the world movies.

Yeah. I have a rule about driving when the winds exceed a certain mph.

Intermodal freight... double stacked shipping containers.  The bottom container is recessed into a rail car made for those.. makes for a lower center of gravity and a lower total height.  The containers are bolted together.  High enough winds will topple them regardless of load, and being on a high bridge, they will get the full force of the wind.. empty gondolas have blown off of bridges in the past...

I've seen the film on that quite a number of times. My brain refuses to believe what it saw, logicaly I know it's an actual, factual film but it's so bizzare my brain is still skeptical. It's better than movie FK.

There's one thing any New Mexican can tell you and that's that the wind knows how to blow here. Spring and Fall here, OMF! The winds sandblast the state, and your automobile and your house and you, if you're out in it too long.
