(Washington Post)   Guiness' new MD brewery, featuring some "experimental beers," pulled in 300K visitors in its first 90 days, meaning it's found that sweet spot where "macrobrew drinkers who pretend to like micros" meet "people who like to pretend they drink stouts"   (washingtonpost.com) divider line

Awww, I was hoping they meant a Guiness/MD 2020 hybrid.

Do they have souvenir towels?

I like Guinness stout.  I like other stouts as well.  I guess I have a semi fond spot for it because it was the first stout I tried, and it brings back memories of college and friends and the local bar.  Objectively, it's no better or worse than other stouts I'd tried.  (There's one Nitro stout I didn't really like, maybe by Sam Adams?)

Anyway, I just woke up and in rambling mode, but the brand name worship is just weird and wrong to me.  I don't ever want to go on a factory tour, and I'd much prefer to hang out with friends at a local pub.  I never want to be the stout equivalent of those Ford vs. Chevy weirdos.

/Not that I have friends of course.

Posted by someone who thinks IPAs are the only craft brew.

I like stouts.  And porters.  I don't drink them often, though.  They're more of a "treat beer".

I mean, if you really like IPAs, I can piss into a bottle for you.

Love a stout. Grew up in SFla and introduced to them by the local Carib folks I would run into fishing. With a Guinness, no refrig needed on your fishing trip. Just pop open a bottle and drink away.

I had thought they'd only be brewing the blonde, but they are apparently doing stout there too.

I may have to expedite a trip up there.....

Still one of my favorites.

I live about 5-10 minutes away, and still haven't done the tour yet. I should do it soon.

Subby thinks any beer stronger than Coors Light is for elitist libby snobs.

You do you, Subby. I visit micro breweries everywhere I travel in this country and yet, somehow, find the fortitude to enjoy a popular, mass-produced beer like Guinness, Sam Adams, or even Blue Moon.  Will you be okay or should I call for help?

No offense to any Baltimore farkers but why the fark did they put it in MD? Big ass tax break? oh well, at least it isn't in DE.

Big-ass property.  Diageo has a massive distillery on the property and they recently moved bottling operations off-site so they had a spare building.

I get on nitro beer kicks way too much. They are also way too easy to drink and the music gets louder and louder. The next day I always need to turn the receiver down to realistic levels.

I prefer canned nitro beers over bottles. Guinness and Youngs Double Chocolate and various Belhavens are great with some easier to find than others.

It is nice that American brewers are getting into the game. Breckenridge has their Vanilla Porter and an Irish style stout. Lefthand has many of varying abv.

Because it's always something negative, right? Couldn't be that people who like beer wanted to see what was up? Nah... too easy. Someone always has to be at fault, somehow.

Yeah, yeah, I know, welcome to Fark, etc., etc.

When I took the tour of marketing that is the Guinness Storehouse tour in Dublin they were experimenting with what became Guinness North Star. They also had their "Extra Cold" on taster as well.

People like to joke that American beer is like sex in a canoe, but Guinness really does taste like they made a decent beer and then cut it 50% with water.

I have no idea where people in this thread are getting the idea that it's somehow intense or hardcore.

It's a 4.1% ABV beer that's dark, but not made with anything especially roasty or bitter. It barely qualified to be sold in bars in Colorado as anything at 3.2% ABW (which is roughly 4.1% ABV) was supposed to be the domain of grocery stores only. A law since changed.

It's neck and neck with Bud Light as far as "hardcore".

For me Nitro is all about not wanting my stomach to feel like exploding after one or two pints. Stout is also a fave style for me, so the fact that Guiness is available almost everywhere makes that the easy choice, but I'll take whatever else is out there with nitro too.

How does that compare to the Ark Adventure? Maybe Ken Ham should add another M to his last name and rebrand as Hamm's Adventure Barge.

Beer Snobs just barely worse than Pizza Snobs.
